A drive for a vehicle includes an internal combustion engine having a combustion chamber delimited by a cylinder and a piston, a compressed gas storage connectable with the combustion chamber for storing a gas compressed in the combustion chamber, a separate expansion machine for expanding compressed gas from the combustion chamber or from the compressed gas storage by performing mechanical work, and devices for supplying gas from the expansion machine into the combustion chamber or into an intake passage of the internal combustion engine. The drive may, alternatively or in addition, also include devices for heating the compressed gas from the combustion chamber or from the compressed gas storage before the compressed gas enters into the expansion machine.

The invention relates to a method and a device for optimizing combustion of diesel fuels with different cetane numbers in a diesel internal combustion engine. It is provided that cylinder pressures are measured in at least one cylinder of the internal combustion engine during the combustion period, that at least one part of the measured cylinder pressures is evaluated in order to derive a characteristic value for the diesel fuel that is fed into the cylinder of the internal combustion engine, and that the characteristic value is used to change parameters that determine the combustion in the cylinders of the internal combustion engine.

An invention relates to a cooling system for a vehicle comprising an engine, an engine radiator, and an engine cooling circuit. A second cooling circuit encompassing at least one cooling component can be coupled to the engine radiator and is connected to a coolant recirculation pipe of the engine cooling circuit by means of a branch of a coolant supply pipe of the engine cooling circuit and a recirculation pipe of the cooling component. The second cooling circuit can be alternatively coupled to the coolant recirculation pipe or a coolant supply pipe at the output end in accordance with operating conditions of the engine.

The invention relates to a method for operating an internal combustion engine, in which the exhaust gas generated by the internal combustion engine is returned to the internal combustion engine by means of an exhaust gas recirculation device having at least two cooling devices which are each associated with a bypass, the exhaust gas being cooled in the exhaust gas recirculation device as a function of the load state of the internal combustion engine. The operation of the internal combustion engine is divided into at least four load states, and as a function of the instantaneous load state the exhaust gas is returned to the internal combustion engine via a flow path in the exhaust gas recirculation device specifically assigned to this load state.
