An optical fiber connector assembly for receiving an optical fiber and reducing transverse offset loss has a ferrule (15) having a plurality of tabs (19) disposed circumferentially thereabout. The ferrule (15) and a compression spring (20) are retainably received in a cable attachment body (25) in one of a plurality of possible rotational orientations to form an assembly (11). Apertures (44) and longitudinal cutouts (42) in the plug body (40) receive retention lugs (35) on the cable attachment body (25). In an FC connector, a plurality of latch beams (67) on the plug body (40) retainably engage an internal retention diameter (71) in an FC coupling nut. The ferrule assembly (11) together with the plug body (40) are assembled to the FC coupling nut (60) using axial motions.

Optical fiber connector having enhanced assembly means

Optical fiber connector assemblies. The connectors comprise plug bodies having two cantilevered beams disposed in a rear interior portion of the plug body and a ferrule which houses an optical fiber that is front-loaded into the plug body and which is adapted to bias the two cantilevered beams when placed in the plug body such that the plug body snaps around the plug member to captivate the ferrule member in the optical fiber connector. The connector is further comprised of a spring placed axially in the plug body for spring-loading the ferrule member in the plug body, and a rear housing adapted to receive the rear portion of the ferrule member when the ferrule member is placed in the plug body. The optical fiber connectors which are described herein ensure precise optical alignment of optical waveguides in the connector and are simple to assemble.

An apparatus to form a duplex-like fiber optic connector by maintaining plug assemblies in a side-by-side relation to enable simultaneous mating with sleeves of a receptacle housing. The apparatus has a pair of separate housings, each housing having a chamber where one of the plug assemblies is retainably received. A retention member is incorporated into one of the housings and a clasp member is incorporated into the other of the housings. The clasp member and the retention member are retainably interconnected to hold the housings in a side-by-side relationship with float therebetween, whereby the float accommodates any misalignment between the plug assemblies and the sleeves.

A cable termination member (10) having improved strain relief features for isolating optical fiber members (21,22) in a terminated optical fiber cable (20) from external stresses. The cable termination member (10) is adapted to terminate an optical fiber cable (20) which includes at least one optical fiber member (21), a load bearing member around the at least one optical fiber member (23) and an outer jacket (24) surrounding the load bearing member (23), and includes a first outer crimp means (38) having a bore for receiving an end of an optical fiber cable (20), a second outer crimp means (39) crimped to the first outer crimp means (38) with an exposed portion of the load bearing member (23) crimped therebetween, and an inner crimp member (41) positioned in the cable (20) between the at least one optical fiber member (21) and the load bearing member (23) and within the first and second outer crimp means (38,39) for securing the cable jacket (24) between the first outer crimp means (38) and the inner crimp member (41). The inner crimp ring or eyelet (41) of the present invention firmly secures both the load bearing member (23) and the jacket (24) of the cable (20) to the termination member (10) to provide improved strain relief for protecting optical fiber members (21,22) within the cable (20) against external stresses.
