Residual oil fractions are upgraded in that CCR is selectively removed without undue hydrogen consumption by hydroprocessing with a catalyst comprises a single metal such as molybdenum, tungsten, nickel, iron or palladium or multimetallic combination of such metals, excluding, however, active desulfurization compositions such as nickel molybdenum and nickel-tungsten. Said catalyst is characterized as having greater than about 50% of its pore volume contribution in pores having diameters in the range of between about 100 and 200 Angstroms. The product of such hydroprocessing is a particularly preferable feedstock for coking to give more liquid yield and less coke make.

Upgrading residual oil

A method is disclosed for the improvement of catalyst performance in catalytic hydrodewaxing of both petroleum and synthetic hydrocarbon feedstocks utilizing a special group of acidic crystalline aluminosilicate zeolites such as those of the ZSM-5 type which involves treatment of said zeolites in order to adjust their initially high alpha activity to within a range of 55-150 alpha prior to use as catalysts in a hydrodewaxing operation.

Hydrodewaxing catalyst performance

An improved process for catalytically dewaxing a hydrocarbon oil is disclosed. In this process the waxy oil is contacted in the presence of hydrogen with a dense zeolitic dewaxing catalyst associated with a nickel-tungsten hydrogenation component. The dewaxed oil has unexpectedly good stability and a low bromine number compared with prior-art processed oils. The process may be used to dewax crude oils, fuel oil fractions and lubricating oils.

Catalytic dewaxing of hydrocarbon oils

Compatibility of solvent refined coal and other coal liquids with conventional petroleum fuels is improved by moderate catalytic hydrogenation of the solvent refined coal liquid to a hydrogen to carbon atomic ratio less than that of corresponding petroleum fractions. As degree of hydrogenation of solvent refined coal is increased, compatibility with petroleum fractions of like boiling range increases to a maximum measured by precipitation of sediment from the blend of equal parts of the two fuels. That maximum is achieved at a hydrogen/carbon ratio below that of the corresponding petroleum fractions. As that ratio is increased toward the ratio characteristic of a like petroleum fraction, compatibility is impaired.

Hydroprocessing coal liquids

In the hydroprocessing of blends of solvent refined coal and recycle solvent, small pore hydrotreating catalysts cause separation of a solid phase from treating blends containing high concentration of solvent refined coal.

Catalytic hydroprocessing of solvent refined coal to provide a liquid

A processing arrangement for upgrading crude oil by the combination of hydrodewaxing, and fluid catalytic cracking or hydrocracking to maximize the production of low pour, high quality distillate fuel oil is particularly described. Cracking of atmospheric bottoms of residua, hydrodewaxing atmospheric heavy gas oil and hydrodesulfurizing light gas oil material to produce diesel fuel oil products are primary components of the processing arrangement.

Production of high quality fuel oils

The disclosure concerns the demetalation and desulfurization of metal and sulfur containing petroleum oils, preferably those containing residua hydrocarbon components, through the use of a catalyst comprising a hydrogenating component composited on a refractory base, preferably an alumina, whose pores are substantially distributed over a narrow 100A to 200A diameter range, but also having at least about 5% of its pores of a diameter greater than 500A.

Catalyst for residua demetalation and desulfurization

Upgrading a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis product by separating a 350.degree. to 850.degree. F product fraction thereof into a 650.degree. F minus fraction and a 650.degree. F plus fraction; separating the 650.degree. F minus fraction to provide a more narrow 350.degree. to 650.degree. F fraction; combining the 650.degree. F plus fraction with a portion of the 350.degree. to 650.degree. F fraction to form a wide boiling range feed material; contacting this formed wide boiling range feed material, together with hydrogen, with a special catalyst comprising a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having a silica to alumina ratio of at least 12 and a constraint index of 1 to 12, at a temperature of about 500.degree. to 800.degree. F, a hydrogen partial pressure of about 100 to 800 psia and a space velocity of about 0.5 to 5 LHSV to produce a converted product thereof separating the zeolite conversion product to recover a 350.degree. F minus fraction from a 350.degree. F plus fractions; and separating the 350.degree. F plus fraction to recover a 350.degree. to 450.degree. F jet fuel fraction having a freeze point of less than about -58.degree. F.

Conversion of Fischer-Tropsch heavy product to high quality jet fuel

A hydrocarbon fuel oil composition comprising a blend of untreated low pour-point distillate oil and a higher pour-point catalytically hydrodewaxed distillate oil. The blend has an unexpectedly low pour point and cloud point. Dewaxing is effected with a ZSM-5 type catalyst.

Hydrodewaxing

The product of Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis is separated to recover a product boiling above about 400.degree. F which is thereafter processed over a selective crystalline zeolite under hydrodewaxing conditions promoting the formation of fuel oil and gasoline products. Improving start up and operation of the process in the presence of a ZSM5 crystalline zeolite is described.

Method for improving the Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis product distribution

The product of Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis is separated to recover a C.sub.5 -400.degree. F liquid fraction which is thereafter hydrogenated in order to saturate diolefins and contacted with a ZSM-5 type zeolite under conditions of elevated temperature and pressure so as to obtain gasoline of a higher octane rating. The contact with the ZSM-5 zeolite is preferably in the presence of added hydrogen.

Method for upgrading a Fischer-Tropsch light oil

The product of Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis is separated to recover a product boiling above and below about 400.degree. F which is thereafter separately process over different beds of ZSM-5 crystalline zeolite under conditions promoting the formation of fuel oil products and gasoline of a higher octane rating.

Method for improving the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis product distribution

The product of Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis is separated to recover a C.sub.5 -400.degree. F liquid fraction which is thereafter contacted with a ZSM-5 type zeolite in the presence of added hydrogen under conditions of elevated temperature and pressure so as to obtain gasoline of a higher octane rating.

Upgrading a fraction of a heavy Fischer-Tropsch oil to jet fuel by hydropretreating a 350.degree. to 850.degree. F boiling fraction; separating the hydrotreated product into a 650.degree. F minus and a 650.degree. F plus fraction, separating the650.degree. F minus fraction to provide a 350.degree. F minus naphtha boiling range fraction and a 350.degree. to 650.degree. F light distillate fraction; distilling the 350.degree. to 650.degree. F hydrotreated fraction to provide a fraction boiling in the range of 350.degree. F to 550.degree. F separate from a 550.degree. to 650.degree. F fraction processing either of the 650.degree. F plus fraction above separated or the 350.degree. to 550.degree. F boiling fraction above obtained over a catalyst comprising a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having a silica to alumina ratio of at least 12 and a constraint index of 1 to 12 with hydrogen, at a temperature of about 500.degree. to 800.degree. F, a hydrogen partial pressure of about 100 to 800 psig and a space velocity in the range of about 0.5 to 5 LHSV to produce a converted product comprising lower boiling hydrocarbons than the feed charged and recovering as a product of the process a reduced pour point diesel oil fraction, a 350.degree. to 550.degree. F jet fuel fraction, and a 350.degree. F minus naphtha product fraction.

Upgrading of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis product is accomplished by water washing the product effluent to separate oxygenates therefrom, separating the washed effluent to recover a C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 rich fraction, a C.sub.5 plus gasoline fraction, a light fuel oil fraction and a heavy fuel oil fraction which is subjected to hydrodewaxing conditions to produce additional light fuel oil and gasoline boiling product. The light fuel oil products were hydrotreated and the synthesis gasoline is octane improved with ZSM5 crystalline zeolite.
