An optical interconnect module for coupling a photonic integrated chip to an optical ferrule is provided. The optical interconnect module may include a coupler for interfacing to the photonic integrated chip, the coupler comprising at least one guide pin. The optical interconnect module may include an optical ferrule configured for being removably attached to the coupler, the optical ferrule comprising at least one through hole for receiving the at least one guide pin from the coupler.

An optical housing assembly includes a housing member having a first face and a second face. The first face has a plurality of first cavities and the second face has a plurality of second cavities. Each of the first cavities is aligned with one of the second cavities and each of the first cavities and each of the second cavities has a housing locking member. Each of a plurality of first adapter inserts have a first mounting section inserted into one of the first cavities, a first receptacle configured to receive a first optical fiber connector therein, and a first connector latching member. Each of a plurality of second adapter inserts has a second mounting section inserted into one of the second cavities, a second receptacle, and a second connector latching member.

A removal clip is provided for disconnecting a fiber optic connector from an array of installed fiber optic connectors. The removal clip includes an engagement portion for engaging the connector and a force transmitting structure that allows digital removal force from a user to be applied at a distance from the connector. The engagement portion may be generally U-shaped and includes opposing latch arms configured to accommodate the body of a fiber optic connector. The latch arms permit the engagement portion to snap attach to the connector. The force transmitting structure may include a beam and a handle extending axially or radially from the gripping section. Also included is an assembly of a removal clip attached to a fiber optic connector.

An interconnect system () includes a transceiver module assembly () that is mountable in an industrial receptacle (). The receptacle mates to an industrial optical connector () to form an environmentally sealed connection. The receptacle has an interior passageway () and mating means () for attaching the module assembly. The module assembly includes a spring-loaded module cage () for receiving active devices (), such as SFP transceivers. The spring-loaded module cage can adjust its position within the receptacle to accommodate different type of modules from various vendors. When attached to the platform, the module assembly is positioned so that the cage's open end is accessible through the receptacle's passageway. Users have the option of plugging/unplugging the transceiver module either through the passageway or by removing the module assembly from the receptacle.

A tool for cleaving a plastic optical fiber has a body with a cleaving aperture at the insertion face of the body and through which the termination end section of the plastic optical fiber is inserted and in which an operative section is positioned upon inserting the plastic optical fiber into the tool. A cutting blade has a cutting edge and is moveable along a cutting path between a first operative position at which the cutting edge is spaced from the cleaving axis and a second operative position at which the cutting edge intersects the cleaving axis to cleave the plastic optical fiber to create an optical finish on an end surface of the operative section of the plastic optical fiber. A clearance region is located at the termination face of the body and generally aligned with the cleaving aperture and in which the termination end section may deflect upon engagement of the cutting blade with the plastic optical fiber.

The connector system provides two identical hermaphroditic housings, which accomplish a reliable connection of standard optical fiber connectors without the use of an adaptor. The connector system includes a first housing mounted to a first printed wiring board and a second housing mounted to a second printed wiring board. Each housing supports an optical fiber connector therein. Each housing includes an inner member and an outer member. Springs are provided between the inner and outer members to provide biasing of the housings in the mating direction of the optical connectors.
