A remote keyless entry vehicle receiver includes a memory that stores a security code for uniquely identifying a transmitter that is authorized entry into the vehicle. The memory also stores a broadcast code that identifies a broadcast message intended for general use by a group of vehicles, each being equipped with a similar receiver. A signal is received which includes at least a coded portion. The received coded portion is compared with each of the codes that are stored in memory. Vehicle entry is permitted when the received signal includes a coded portion that matches the stored security code. The driver is alerted and/or provided with a message when the received signal includes a coded portion that matches the stored broadcast code.

Receiver for use in a remote keyless entry system and for receiving

A beam-of-light (BOL) sensor having means for regulating the intensity of the sensor light source to compensate for extraneous factors in the operating environment, e.g. dust accumulation, that may affect consistent sensor operation. The BOL sensor includes a photosensor whose output signal is compared against a reference signal to determine if the light source intensity is of the proper level. The comparison signal is transformed into a digital pulse that adjusts the stored count of a counter upward or downward in accordance with the comparison of the photosensor signal and reference signal. The adjusted count is converted to analog form and fed back to drive the light source. A trailing edge detector enables the counter to count up or down when an object is in the sensing station defined by the light source and photosensor. A hole filter is provided to filter out small, spurious apertures in a sensed object that would otherwise yield a double detection signal and cause an improper adjustment of the stored count.

Automatic gain control for photosensing devices

A beam-of-light (BOL) sensor having means for regulating the intensity of the sensor light source to compensate for extraneous factors in its operating environment, e.g., dust accumulation, component aging, misalignment, etc., that may affect consistent sensor operation. The BOL sensor includes a photosensor whose output signal is compared against a reference signal to determine if the light source intensity is of the proper level. The comparison signal is used to gate clock pulses to a counter to adjust its stored count upward or downward, dependent on whether the light source intensity is low or high, respectively. A filter is provided to override interruptions in the photosensor output signal below a predetermined minimum time duration.

An apparatus and method for recognizing a presented character are provided. The apparatus includes a scanner for extracting black and white information from a document in the form of an analog electrical signal. The analog electrical signal is converted into a three bit binary number by a multi-level quantizer to consequently form three weighted data field geometric configurations consisting of rows of binary signals, which binary signals are stored in a storage area in three data field arrays. A selected one of a plurality of progression word detectors detects in a sequential fashion a plurality of binary progression words or progressions by decoding predetermined combinations of the binary words from all the field arrays. The combinations of binary words represent overlapping neighborhood dependent areas from the data field array. A progression detector circuit detects the predetermined combinations of the detected progressions by means of multiplexers which group predetermined combinations of the detected progressions and binary counters which keep track of the progression times and stores the fact that a progression occurs in the proper progression.

Character recognition system

A method and apparatus for generating display enabling signals representative of unprocessed and processed data streams obtained from a character recognition system for improved identification of minimal quality read signals. The apparatus is operative to generate the display enabling signals concurrently or separately through time as to the unprocessed and processed data streams. The apparatus has the additional capability of being able to operate in a real time state or a delay time state where indefinite display is required.
