A sealed system for an appliance includes a compressor having a shell and lubrication oil disposed with the shell. A condenser in fluid communication with the compressor such that compressed refrigerant from the compressor flows to the condenser during operation of the compressor. The sealed system also includes a heat exchanger for cooling the lubrication oil during operation of the compressor.

A linear compressor includes an inner back iron positioned in a driving coil. A flex mount is positioned within the inner back iron and is coupled to the inner back iron. A coupling extends between the flex mount and a piston, and a compliant bellows is coupled to the flex mount and the piston.

Linear compressor

The present subject matter provides a linear compressor. The linear compressor includes a coupling that extends between an inner back iron assembly and a piston. The coupling includes a shaft and a ball seat mounted to the shaft at an end portion of the shaft. A ball is positioned on the ball seat at a seating surface of the ball seat. A ball shoe is positioned opposite the ball seat about the ball, and the ball is positioned on the seating surface of the ball shoe. A spring urges the ball shoe against the ball.

A linear compressor is provided. The linear compressor includes a piston slidably received within a chamber of a cylinder assembly and a mover positioned in a driving coil. The linear compressor also includes features for coupling the piston to the mover such that motion of the mover is transferred to the piston during operation of the driving coil and for reducing friction between the piston and the cylinder during motion of the piston within the chamber of the cylinder.

A linear compressor is provided. The linear compressor includes a spring assembly. An inner back iron assembly is fixed to the spring assembly at a middle portion of the spring assembly. A driving coil is operable to move the inner back iron assembly in order to reciprocate a piston within a chamber of a cylinder assembly. A related spring assembly is also provided.

Linear compressor and a spring assembly

A linear compressor is provided. The linear compressor includes a pair of planar spring assemblies mounted to an inner back iron assembly at opposite sides of the inner back iron assembly. A magnet is mounted to the inner back iron assembly at an outer surface of the back iron assembly.

A linear compressor and a method for operating a linear compressor are provided. The linear compressor includes a casing and a machined spring. An inner back iron assembly is fixed to the machined spring at a middle portion of the machined spring. The linear compressor also includes features for adjusting a length of the machined spring.

A linear compressor is provided. The linear compressor includes a casing and a machined spring. An inner back iron assembly is fixed to the machined spring at a middle portion of the machined spring. A driving coil is operable to move the inner back iron assembly in order to reciprocate a piston within a chamber of a cylinder assembly.

A linear compressor is provided. The linear compressor includes a piston slidably received within a chamber of a cylinder assembly. A machined spring of the linear compressor extends between an inner back iron assembly of the linear compressor and the cylinder assembly in order to couple the inner back iron assembly to the cylinder assembly.

A linear compressor is provided. The linear compressor includes a machined spring. An inner back iron assembly is fixed to the machined spring at a middle portion of the machined spring. A driving coil is operable to move the inner back iron assembly in order to reciprocate a piston within a chamber of a cylinder assembly.

A linear compressor and a method for lubricating a piston in the same are provided. The linear compressor includes a sleeve that defines a groove, a plurality of channels and a plurality of thru-holes. A piston is slidably received within a chamber of the sleeve. The piston defines a plurality of pockets. The groove of the sleeve, the plurality of channels of the sleeve, the plurality of thru-holes of the sleeve, and the plurality of pockets of the piston are configured for directing liquid oil therethrough during operation of the linear compressor.

A linear compressor is provided. The linear compressor includes a casing that defines a chamber and a piston slidably received within the chamber of the casing. A driving coil is configured for selectively urging the piston to slide within the chamber of the casing. An electro-magnetic spring is configured for urging the piston towards a default position when the piston is positioned away from the default position. The electro-magnetic spring can permit the linear compressor to operate at a resonant condition.

A linear compressor is provided. The linear compressor includes an electro-magnetic spring and a casing that defines a chamber. A piston is received within the chamber of the casing. The electro-magnetic spring can apply a non-linear force to the piston such that a total spring force applied to the piston during a compression stroke is substantially linear.

A vent is included into a scroll compressor for protecting a refrigerant system in the event of loss of charge. The vent selectively taps an entrapped compression chamber to a housing chamber which surrounds the motor. In the event of a low charge, the gas in the compression chamber will be at a high temperature, and will heat the motor when the vent opens. The vented heated gas will then actuate a temperature protection device on the motor, causing the motor to stop rotation. In further embodiments, the compression chamber which supplies the tapped fluid is the discharge port.

A thermostat for sensing an unduly high temperature in a sealed compressor, which is a scroll compressor in the disclosed embodiment, extends through the housing of the sealed compressor into the body of a non-orbiting scroll. Since the thermostat extends through the housing, the wires need not be sealed as they extend from the housing. Still, the thermostat is positioned close to the compression chambers and at a location that will quickly heat when undesirable conditions exist within the sealed compressor. In this manner, the present invention is able to rapidly respond to an undesirable situation to allow a system control to have an indication of the undesired condition.
