Described are methods, devices, and systems related to implants for the treatment of a female pelvic condition. The implants include absorbable and non-absorbable materials and can be introduced into the pelvic area transvaginally. Meshes of the invention provide benefits relating to improved tissue integration into the mesh, reduced infection likelihood, improved patient comfort following implantation, or combinations of thereof.

Implants with absorbable and non-absorbable features for the treatment of female pelvic conditions

Implant systems and methods are provided to include a treatment material with a pelvic implant device. The pelvic implant device, such as an incontinence sling, can include the treatment coating combination of a material, such as Phosphorylcholine (PC), and an infection prevention material, such as InhibiZone&#xae; (IZ) technology. The treatment material can be coated onto, or impregnation or integrated with, polypropylene mesh in order to prevent infection and promote healing.

Various embodiments of a mesh or implant system are provided for treating pelvic conditions such as incontinence, vaginal prolapsed, and other conditions caused by muscle and ligament weakness. A uterine fibroid treatment device providing for localized delivery of one or more treatment drugs for treating various uterine conditions including, for example, uterine fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic adhesions and endometriosis. Generally, the uterine treatment device comprises a physical positioning element that can be inserted, positioned and maintained in close proximity to the uterine tissue to be treated. The treatment drugs delivered to the treatment location can include various combinations of anti-proliferative agents and angiogenesis inhibitors to provide different treatments concurrently. In some embodiments, the physical element can also serve the dual purpose of delivering the treatment drugs while simultaneously cutting off blood flow to a mature fibroid to initiate hypoxic/ischemic conditions within the mature fibroid.

A device useful for localized delivery of a therapeutic material is provided. The device includes a structure including a porous material; and a water-insoluble salt of a therapeutic material dispersed in the porous material. The water-insoluble salt is formed by contacting an aqueous solution of a therapeutic salt with a heavy metal water-soluble salt dispersed throughout a substantial portion of the porous material. The heavy metal water-soluble salt can be dispersed in the porous material so that the device can be sterilized and the therapeutic material can be loaded in the device in situ, for example, just prior to use. The therapeutic material is preferably a heparin or heparin derivative or analog which renders the material antithrombotic as an implantable or invasive device.

The medical device includes a structure including a porous material; and a plurality of discrete particles including a water-insoluble radioactive salt dispersed throughout a substantial portion of the porous material. The water-insoluble radioactive salt is formed by contacting an aqueous radioactive salt solution with a heavy metal water-soluble salt dispersed throughout a substantial portion of the porous material. The heavy metal water-soluble salt can be dispersed in the porous material so that the device can be sterilized and the radioactive material can be loaded in the device in situ, for example, just prior to implantation.
