Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for providing backup and restore services to network attached appliances in a network. Configuration settings comprising configuration settings used in a network attached appliance are gathered and a unique identifier for the network attached appliance is determined. A backup request is generated including the configuration settings, the unique identifier, and a backup operation code. The backup request is broadcasted on the network to be received by the backup servers to store the configuration settings for the unique identifier.

Providing backup and restore services to network attached appliances in a network

A method for archiving of documents of a query against a cognitive system can be provided. The cognitive system comprises at least a cognitive engine, several stored documents, and a learned model. The method comprises determining a plurality of evidence fragments, a related first list of documents and related metadata. The method also comprises removing a document from the stored documents, redetermining as second result a second list of documents, comparing the first and second list of documents, and upon determining identical documents in the compared first and second list of documents up to a confidence cliff, removing another document. Furthermore, the method comprises repeating the steps of removing, redetermining, and comparing until the first list of documents and the second list of documents differ above the confidence cliff and storing metadata of the documents of the first list, the plurality of evidence fragments, and the first query.

Archiving of topmost ranked answers of a cognitive search

In an approach for migrating cloud services between cloud providers, a processor transforms a set of IaC resources of a cloud service on an initial cloud provider into a reference architecture to be deployed to a set of cloud providers. A processor gathers a set of indicators from the set of cloud providers. A processor compares the set of indicators from the set of cloud providers. Responsive to determining that an affinity score was reached for an alternate cloud provider, a processor outputs an alert to an owner of the cloud service, wherein the alert requests approval to migrate the cloud service from the initial cloud provider to the alternate cloud provider. Responsive to receiving approval from the owner, a processor migrates the cloud service to the alternate cloud provider.

Migration of cloud services

A computer-implemented process provides data protection of an in-memory database. The method may include triggering the securing of data of the in-memory database to a first savepoint; securing data of the in-memory database to the first savepoint; and backing up the data of the first savepoint on a persistent storage medium. The data of the first savepoint may be stored on a first persistent medium and the backup data of the first savepoint are stored on a second persistent storage medium. The availability of two different savepoint data on physically different storage media increases the probability of having always savepoint data ready for recovery purposes dramatically. By using different storage media, even in cases of a hardware damage savepoint data will be available.

Database in-memory protection system

The present invention relates to a data block based backup method for a data management system. The data management system comprises a file system that controls access by a database application to at least one database container file stored the data management system. The data management system further comprises a backup client that is connected to a remote backup server, whereby a first version of the database container file is saved in the backup server and a first inode containing information on data blocks of the first version of the database container file. The method may include creating a change tracking table for at least the database container file and adding an entry in the change tracking table, whereby the entry has an indication of the respective data block in association with an information indicating the type of the access.

Data block based backup

Performing automated and self-adjusting backup operations by executing the following steps: Determining a time of last backup operation for a data block. Obtaining an audit trail based on the time of last backup operation for the data block and a current time. Ordering read operations and write operations of the data block into a chronological sequence based on the audit trail. Generating a weighting element for read operations and a weighting element for write operations of the data block such that a weighting of read operations are greater than or less than the weighting of a write operations. Calculating a weighted sum of weighted read operations and weighted write operations for said data block. Respond to a result of a comparison between the weighted sum and at least one threshold value by performing a type of backup operation.

Self-adjusting backup operations

A method, system, and computer program product for displaying components assigned to events produced by resources, includes: registering a new resource by generating a label to which is associated a system specific device identifier used by the new resource within a computing environment; storing in a mapping table the generated label identifying the registered new resource together with an associated system specific device identifier; and updating the mapping table by associating to the label any other system specific device identifier used by the new resource within the computing environment; receiving events produced by resources when being executed within the computing environment, each event being associated with a list of labels for the resources relevant for the generation of the event; and maintaining a tag cloud including different tags, the different tags including labels for the resources associated with the received events to be displayed as components.

Use tag clouds to visualize components related to an event

The present invention optimizes the utilization of computer system resources by considering predefined performance targets of multithreaded applications using the resources. The performance and utilization information for a set of multithreaded applications is provided. Using the performance and utilization information, the invention determines overutilized resources. Using the performance information, the invention also identifies threads and corresponding applications using an overutilized resource. The priority of the identified threads using said overutilized resource is adjusted to maximise a number of applications meeting their performance targets. The adjustments of priorities are executed via a channel that provides the performance and utilization information.

Adjusting thread priority to optimize computer system performance and the utilization of computer system resources

The present invention optimizes the utilization of computer system resources by considering predefined performance targets of multithreaded applications using the resources. The performance and utilization information for a set of multithreaded applications is provided. Using the performance and utilization information, the invention determines overutilized resources. Using the performance information, the invention also identifies threads and corresponding applications using an overutilized resource. The priority of the identified threads using said overutilized resource is adjusted to maximize a number of applications meeting their performance targets. The adjustments of priorities are executed via a channel that provides the performance and utilization information.

The present invention provides methods and an infrastructure for performing repetitive data protection and a corresponding restore of data for block oriented data objects comprising several indexed segments. Methods and infrastructure for performing repetitive data protection and a corresponding restore of data

A backup method that uses snapshot delta views to create backups of a data collection is provided. The method comprises taking a first snapshot of the data collection, in response to determining that a previous snapshot used to create a backup does not exist; creating a backup of the data collection using the first snapshot, in response to determining that the previous snapshot does not exist; recording that the first snapshot was used as a source for the creation of a backup; and taking a second snapshot of the data collection, in response to determining that the previous snapshot that was used as a source for a backup does exist.

Incremental backup using snapshot delta views

A system and method for storing and restoring a data file using several storage media. The method begins with the step of generating several identical copies of the data file. The identical copies are stored on different storage media. The identical copies are subdivided into data portions according to a predetermined scheme. Selected data portions are simultaneously read out via different data channels from at least two different storage media. The data file is restored from the selected data portions.
