Luminescent materials that include a luminescent phosphor compound, articles including a security feature, and methods for producing the luminescent phosphor compounds are provided herein. In an embodiment, a luminescent material includes a medium and luminescent particles. The luminescent particles include a luminescent benzothiazole having a ureido linkage. The luminescent benzothiazole has a peak intensity within a wavelength of from about 555 to about 630 nm in response to excitation with electromagnetic radiation at a wavelength of about 366 nm.

There is provided rare earth metal complexes of formula (I): wherein M is a cation, RE is a rare earth metal; X is a counter anion; and R, R, R, and Rare each independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl of 1-8 carbon atoms, aryl, halo, and alkoxy. Also provided is a composition of europium bis(2,2'-bipyridine-N,N&#x2032;)-trinitrate with a diketonate dopant. The disclosure also provides processes for preparing the rare earth metal complexes. A mark comprising the rare earth metal complexes, and a method of applying the mark, are disclosed. The rare earth metal complexes may be used in printing systems, and for security applications.

Fluorescent compositions having emission under long UV excitation can be utilized as security taggants in printing inks. The fluorescent compositions can be esters of 2-naphthalenesulfonamide, and can be produced as solids in crystal or powder form.

Fluorescent pigment compounds comprising aryl-ureido benzoxazinone compounds of the general formula (I): wherein Ris an substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, Rand Rare each independently selected from an H atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkylcarboxy group and a halogen atom, X is a carbon or sulfur atom and n is an integer of 1 or more. Many of the compounds of this class produce a yellow, generally deep yellow, emission at wavelengths of about 560 to about 585 nm when excited by an appropriate UV source. These compounds produce fluorescence making them useful as fluorescent pigments, those compounds providing emission wavelengths within the range of from about 560 to about 585 or higher when excited by a UV source are particularly useful. Those compounds having this emission spectra for the compounds makes these compounds particularly useful as pigments in security applications, particularly as pigments for use in security inks and fibers.
