A connector that includes contact assemblies and non-conductive stack spacers separating the contact assemblies from each other, the contact assemblies and the stack spacers defining a connector lumen configured to receive a portion of an electrical stimulation lead. The contact assemblies and stack spacers are brazed together forming a sealed connector stack that resists passage of fluid between the contact assemblies and stack spacers. Alternatively or additionally, the stack spacers are made of a non-conductive ceramic, crystalline, or glass material.

A method for manufacturing a lead includes forming an elongated multi-lumen conductor guide defining a central stylet lumen and a plurality of conductor lumens arranged around the stylet lumen. The multi-lumen conductor guide is twisted to form at least one helical section where the plurality of conductor lumens each forms a helical pathway around the stylet lumen. Each of the helical pathways of the at least one helical section has a pitch that is no less than 0.04 turns per centimeter.

Systems and methods for making and using improved leads for electrical stimulation systems

A connector assembly includes an elongated connector housing having a first end, a second end, and a length, the connector housing defining a port at the second end of the connector housing for receiving a proximal end of a lead or lead extension; a lead lumen that extends from the port into the connector housing; connector contacts axially spaced-apart and disposed along the lead lumen for coupling to terminals along a proximal end of a lead or lead extension; and non-conductive spacers disposed between adjacent connector contacts. Each of the spacers includes a first radial sidewall, a second radial sidewall, and an intermediate region extending between, and connecting, the first and second radial sidewalls. The first and second radial sidewalls and intermediate region define boundaries of an open circumferential space opposite the lead lumen with respect to the intermediate region.

An electrical stimulation lead connector includes a connector housing and a plurality of contacts. The connector housing defines a lead lumen having a width, a lead receiving opening, an end stop, a midpoint between the lead receiving opening and the end stop, and a longitudinal length extending from the lead receiving opening to the end stop. The width of the lead lumen decreases from the lead receiving opening to the midpoint and from the midpoint to the end stop. The plurality of contacts is disposed in the connector housing and longitudinally spaced apart from each other along the longitudinal length of the lead lumen. Each of the contacts is configured and arranged to electrically couple to a corresponding terminal of a lead body when an end portion of the lead body is inserted into the lead lumen.

A method of performing a medical procedure comprises introducing a medical device through a cranial burr hole into the brain tissue, mounting a plug base around a cranial burr hole, securing the medical device within the aperture of the plug base, seating a proximal end of the medical device within a first groove of the plug base, such that the proximal end exits the aperture of the plug base through the first groove, looping the proximal end from the first groove to a second groove in the plug base, seating the proximal end within the second groove, such that the proximal end extends across the aperture of the plug base from the second groove, and seating the proximal end within a third groove of the plug base, such that the proximal end exits the plug base aperture through the third groove.

A control module for an electrical stimulation system includes a casing having an electrically-conductive portion; an electronic subassembly disposed in the casing; and a header portion coupled to the casing and including a connector for a lead or lead extension. The control module also includes a feedthrough assembly coupling the casing to the header portion. The feedthrough assembly includes a non-conductive ceramic block; conductive feedthrough pins passing through the ceramic block and electrically coupling the connector to the electronic subassembly disposed in the casing; a metal flange disposed around, and attached to, the ceramic block, and a non-conductive spacer attached to the metal flange and to the casing to raise the ceramic block above, and away from, the casing. Other control modules include a ceramic block that has a rim portion that raises the plate portion, through which the feedthrough pins pass, of the block away from the casing.
