A refrigeration and air-cycle air conditioning system is provided for a body defining interior space, preferably a stand alone refrigeration cabinet. The air conditioning system includes a unique combination of a compressor, intercooler, expander, motor and plenum to increase the performance of the system making it practical for use in commercial refrigeration.

Air-cycle air conditioning system for commercial refrigeration

This temperature regulation apparatus comprises a heat pump () comprising a main compression circuit () for a refrigerant fluid taking heat from a cold source () and transferring it to a hot source (). The cold source () comprises a first heat exchanger () for exchanging heat between the refrigerant fluid and a liquid coolant thermally coupling the main refrigerant circuit () to a first secondary coolant circuit (). The first secondary circuit () has selective connection means () for selectively connecting it to the upstream and downstream ends (A,B) of a 'heater' branch () of a cooling liquid circuit () of an exothermal part of the vehicle. The exothermal part is preferably a heat engine of the vehicle. The invention is applicable to air conditioning a motor vehicle cabin.

Optimized heat pump apparatus for regulating motor vehicle temperature

The device includes a heat pump integrating a refrigerant circuit taking calories from a cold source to transfer them towards a warm source. The device also includes a heat-conducting fluid/air thermal exchanger called external exchanger (), located in the vehicle engine compartment (), the heat-conducting fluid being either the refrigerant or a heat-conducting fluid in thermal exchange with the cold source refrigerant. The device also includes means of formation of an air flow, preferably a fan (), circulating through the external exchanger () and called outlet air flow, directed from inside the engine compartment () to outside the vehicle. Preferably, the fan () shall be able to rotate in a first direction to form an air flow directed from outside the vehicle to inside the engine compartment () and called inlet air flow, and in a reverse direction to form the outlet air flow.

A thermally energy efficient vehicle includes a vehicle structure having generally interconnected structural members that form a frame for the vehicle and generally planar interconnected panels that define a shape of the vehicle. The thermally energy efficient vehicle also includes a low transmittance glass window positioned within the vehicle structure which increases a thermal resistance of the vehicle and an energy efficient thermal management system that provides exterior thermal management and interior thermal management for the vehicle, such that the energy efficient thermal management system consumes less thermal energy as a result of the increased thermal resistance of the vehicle.

A vehicle heating and cooling system having a first coolant loop selectively connecting an engine cooling system with a heater core or a first coolant/refrigerant heat exchanger, a second coolant loop connecting a second coolant/refrigerant heat exchanger and the heater core to warm a passenger compartment of the vehicle. The system also includes a refrigerant loop that provides for conventional cooling of the passenger compartment of the vehicle, as well as operating as a heat pump, together with the coolant loops, to provide heat to the vehicle passenger compartment.

An air cycle system for use in a vehicle having an internal combustion engine is provided. A compressor has an outflow to an intercooler with an outflow to a first bypass valve. The first bypass valve has an open and a closed orientation, directing air to the engine of the vehicle in the open orientation and directing air to an expander in the closed orientation. The expander has an outflow to a second bypass valve that is adjustable so it can direct a variable fraction of air to the engine and the remainder of the air to an air handling unit. The air handling unit has at least a fan, a scroll center, and first and second air flow paths. The first air flow path has an input at the scroll center from the second bypass valve and the second air flow path has an input at the fan from the interior of the vehicle. The air handling unit mixes air from the first and second flow paths and directs the mixed air to the interior of the vehicle.

Multi-purpose air cycle system

A method and system for climate control uses a desiccant in an automobile. The desiccant removes humidity or moisture from air passing through the ventilation system. The desiccant is recharged or dried by application of a vacuum. The lower pressure generated by the vacuum reduces the temperature at which water evaporates or boils off of the desiccant material.

A climatized seat utilizing a vortex tube is provided. The vortex tube separates compressed air into hot and cold air streams, which are used to heat and cool the seat. In a preferred embodiment, the seat includes a vortex tube, communicative passageways connected to the ends of the vortex tube and the seat, and one or more valves for regulating airflow from the ends of the vortex tube and the environment surrounding the seat. A system for regulating seat temperature is also provided. In one embodiment, the system comprises one or more seats, one or more vortex tubes, various communicative passageways and valves, a source of compressed air, and an accumulator for storing compressed air.

A climate control system includes an electromagnetic compressor that receives a noble gas in a first state and compresses the gas to a second state without a change in phase. The climate control system also includes a gas cooler operatively connected to the electromagnetic compressor, such that the gas cooler receives the gas in the second state and cools the gas to a third state without a change of phase. The climate control system further includes a power generator operatively connected to said gas cooler, such that the power generator receives the gas in the third state and decreases a pressure and an enthalpy of the gas without changing phase to a fourth state. The climate control system still further includes a cooler core operatively connected to the power generator, such that the cooler core receives the gas in the fourth state and air to be cooled, and operatively extracts heat from the air and returns the gas without changing phase to the first state.

An air conditioning (A/C) system and method of controlling same is provided for a vehicle. The A/C system includes an evaporator, a desiccant dryer located downstream of the evaporator, and a compressor fluidly connected to the air evaporator. The A/C system also includes a plurality of sensors to provide inputs relating to temperature of the evaporator and relative humidity of an occupant compartment of the vehicle. The A/C system further includes an electronic control unit electrically connected to the sensors to receive the inputs therefrom and electrically connected to the desiccant dryer and the compressor to turn the desiccant dryer and the compressor On and Off to control the temperature and relative humidity of air to the occupant compartment.
