The invention relates to a device () for transmitting data between two rail vehicles (). At each rail vehicle () one data transmission unit (to) is arranged, wherein between the data transmission units (to) a data transmission link for transmitting data is formed. Data transmission via this data transmission link is carried out by means of an optical radio relay system.

What is described is a middle buffer coupling for rail-bound vehicles, comprising two coupling halves (') to be coupled together attached to vehicle parts (A, B), each of said coupling halves (&#x2032;) comprising a coupling rod (&#x2032;) with a coupling head (&#x2032;), and comprising a connecting element () for manually connecting the two coupling heads (&#x2032;). Disposed at each coupling head (&#x2032;) is an electrical contact element () for contacting with the contact element of the other respective coupling head (&#x2032;) when the two coupling halves (&#x2032;) are coupled. Routed within each coupling rod (&#x2032;) are electrical lines (&#x2032;) that lead from the contact elements () of the associated coupling head (&#x2032;) to the vehicle part (A, B) to which the coupling halves (&#x2032;) comprising said coupling rods (&#x2032;) are attached, respectively.
