In an example implementation, a method of disconnecting a battery from a system, includes detecting that a reset button has been depressed for a preset time period. In response to the detecting, communication lines can be broken between an embedded controller and a system battery, and a command can be sent to the system battery to disconnect itself from the system.

An energy storage device includes an integrated fuel gauge that is operatively connected to the energy storage device. The fuel gauge evaluates an operating parameter of the energy storage device and dynamically determines a state of charge. The fuel gauge communicates a communication including a requested operating parameter to the charging component with the single communication line and the signal indicates to an operating system component a change of an energy storage device state. The signal is used to trigger an alert or interrupt that causes the operating system component to display the change of the energy storage state based on the signal.

A system according to examples of the present disclosure includes a battery charger electrically coupled to a battery and a battery charging circuit. The battery charging circuit includes an operational amplifier having a negative input to receive a pre-bias voltage, a positive input, an output, and a voltage offset. The battery charging circuit also includes a charge controller having an analog-to-digital converter to receive a voltage output from the output of the operational amplifier and a voltage supply to supply a voltage input into the positive input of the operation amplifier to cancel the voltage offset of the operational amplifier. In the example, the voltage output of the charge controller is a function of the voltage input of the charge controller.

One example of a device includes an output terminal to electrically couple to a load, a first input terminal to electrically couple to a first voltage source, and a blocking rectifier electrically coupled between the first input terminal and the output terminal. The device includes a second input terminal to electrically couple to a second voltage source. The second input terminal is electrically coupled to the output terminal. The device includes a control circuit to control the second voltage source to prevent a voltage at the output terminal from exceeding a voltage at the first input terminal and to deliver power to the load in place of power delivered by the first voltage source.

An example provides an apparatus for determining an attribute of an adapter based on a ratio of voltage divider outputs. The apparatus may include a first analog-to-digital converter to provide a first digital signal corresponding to a first output voltage of a first voltage divider connected between a power node and a ground node, the first voltage divider formed, at least in part, when the apparatus is operatively coupled to the adapter. The apparatus may include a second analog-to-digital converter to provide a second digital signal corresponding to a second output voltage of a second voltage divider connected between the power node and the ground node. The attribute of the adapter may be determined based on a ratio of the output voltages.

In various embodiments, a transformer provides a voltage. A regulating circuit coupled to the transformer regulates the voltage to provide either a first voltage or a second voltage that is independent of the first voltage.

An energy storage device includes an integrated fuel gauge that is operatively connected to the energy storage device. The fuel gauge evaluates an operating parameter of the energy storage device and dynamically determines a state of charge. The fuel gauge communicates a communication including a requested operating parameter to the charging component with the single communication line and the signal indicates to an operating system component a change of an energy storage device state. The signal is used to trigger an alert or interrupt that causes the operating system component to display the change of the enemy storage state based on the signal.

To provide power to an electronic device, converter circuits include a first converter circuit having an input connected to a first power source, and a second converter circuit having an input connected to a second, different power source. A controller determines whether an overload condition of the first power source exists. In response to determining that the overload condition exists, the first and second converter circuits are activated.

Providing power in an electronic device

Electronic circuits are provided for use with various electrical adapters. Two resistors define a voltage divider circuit. One or more resistors are coupled in parallel arrangement with the voltage divider by way of controlled switching. A voltage present within the voltage divider is converted into a digital signal, which is used to determine a power rating for the respective electrical adapter. The power rating is used to control normal operations of a computer or other device. The electrical adapter can optionally include a second resistor that is switched into parallel circuit arrangement with a first resistor during the power rating determination process.

An output value produced by a combination of the analog-to-digital converter and the inverting circuit is approximately a multiplication of the first signal and the second signal.
