A device for delivering fluid to a user includes a fluid reservoir for holding the fluid, the fluid reservoir defining an internal volume and a stopper positioned in the internal volume of the fluid reservoir, wherein the stopper is formed with a cavity. The device further includes a piston having a distal end received within the cavity of the stopper and an actuator coupled to the piston for driving the piston into the internal volume of the fluid reservoir. Also, the device includes a coupling device for engaging the piston in the cavity of the stopper at a desired position and a sensor for determining whether the piston is engaged in the cavity of the stopper at the desired position.

Connection of a stopper and piston in a fluid delivery device

An apparatus is provided for detecting mating of a cap with a fluid delivery device having a housing, a receptacle, and a sensor. The housing is configured to carry an insulin delivery device having a reservoir of the fluid. The receptacle is provided by the housing having a coupling with a locking recess configured to receive a cap with a sprung locking arm. The pressure sensor is carried by the receptacle proximate the coupling and configured to detect engagement force of the sprung locking arm with the receptacle when mated with the housing. A method is also provided.

Apparatus for detecting mating of a cap with a fluid delivery device and method

A transfer device for filing a fluid reservoir of a fluid infusion device with a fluid is provided. The transfer device comprises a first end to couple to a source of the fluid, and a second end to couple to a pressurizing device. The transfer device also comprises a body interconnecting the first end and the second end, and having an end to couple to the fluid reservoir. The body defining at least one fluid flow path between the source of the fluid, the pressurizing device and the fluid reservoir to enable the filling of the fluid reservoir with the fluid.

Systems for filling a fluid infusion device reservoir

A reservoir includes a reservoir body portion and a collecting portion. The reservoir body portion having a wall defining an interior volume for containing fluidic media, the reservoir having a first port in the reservoir body portion to be in fluid flow communication with the interior volume, the first port for expelling fluidic media from the interior volume as a plunger is moved within the reservoir. The collecting portion having a wall defining a volume in fluid flow communication with the interior volume, the volume of the collecting portion for collecting gas bubbles in the fluidic media as the fluidic media is expelled through the first port from the interior volume of the reservoir body portion, the reservoir having a second port in the collecting portion to be in fluid flow communication with the volume of the collecting portion, the second port for receiving fluidic media into the reservoir.

Reservoir systems and methods

Systems and methods allow for limiting a presence of air bubbles in a fluidic medium filled into a reservoir. A fluidic medium may be forced from a vial into a reservoir. A vial may be degassed prior to being used to fill a reservoir. A filling process may be automated and a membrane may be located in a fluid flow path to trap air bubbles in a fluidic medium being filled into a reservoir.

Systems and methods for reservoir filling

Various embodiments of the present invention are directed to limiting a presence of air bubbles in fluidic media in a reservoir. Air passages may allow air to escape from fluidic media in a reservoir. Membranes may allow for trapping air bubbles in fluidic media before fluidic media enters a reservoir. A membrane may allow air to flow from a first reservoir containing fluidic media to a second reservoir while plunger heads within each of the reservoirs are moved within the reservoirs. An inner reservoir with a membrane may be moveable within an outer reservoir to allow air to move from the outer reservoir to the inner reservoir. An inner reservoir containing pressurized gas may allow fluidic media to be transferred to an outer reservoir.

Systems and methods allowing for reservoir air bubble management

Various embodiments of the present invention are directed to limiting a presence of air bubbles in a fluidic medium expelled from a reservoir. In various embodiments, a plunger head within a reservoir is shaped so as to limit a presence of air bubbles in a fluidic medium expelled from the reservoir. Also, in various embodiments, a reservoir is shaped so as to limit a presence of air bubbles in a fluidic medium expelled from the reservoir. In some embodiments, both a reservoir and a plunger head within the reservoir are shaped so as to limit a presence of air bubbles in a fluidic medium expelled from the reservoir.
