Systems, devices, and techniques described herein relate to handover between Non-Standalone (NSA) and Standalone (SA) networks. An example method includes receiving, from a User Equipment (UE), a measurement report indicating that a signal threshold has been satisfied. In response to receiving the measurement report, handover of a communication session from a first core network to a second core network may be initiated. A message confirming that the communication session has been handed over from the first core network to the second core network can be received. In response to receiving the message, handover of the communication session can be initiated between a single radio bearer associated with a first Radio Access Technology (RAT) and a dual radio bearer associated with the first RAT and a second RAT.

Handover between non-standalone and standalone networks

The system receives, from a telecommunications network subscribed to by the wireless device, a list of roaming networks. The system connects to a roaming network from the list of roaming networks. The system enters a roaming mode from a standard mode. The roaming mode reduces the amount of data used by the wireless device by preventing the wireless device from performing background tasks. Background tasks include processes performed by the wireless device to keep an application on the wireless device up to date. The standard mode causes the wireless device to operate at a higher data level and a less optimized battery level compared to the roaming mode. The system connects to the telecommunications network. The wireless device disconnects from the roaming network before connecting to the telecommunications network subscribed to by the wireless device. The system enters the standard mode.

System and methods for controlling wireless device functionality when connected to roaming networks

A network base station can select, for each of one or more attached terminals, a respective downlink transmission mode (DTM) based at least in part on respective channel condition information (CCI). The base station can determine a subframe allocation of DTMs to subframes of a radio frame, and transmit downlink data to terminals based the subframe allocation. Additionally or alternatively, the base station can receive load information from a second base station associated with a different access network and determine the subframe allocation based on the load information. The subframe allocation can associate a specific access network with each subframe. Additionally or alternatively, the base station can send the subframe allocation to the second base station. Additionally or alternatively, the base station can determine a proportion of GBR traffic of a particular DTM, determine a reference-signal transmission rate associated with that DTM, and transmit reference signals accordingly.

Wireless telecommunication using subframes

User equipment (UE) can include a spectrum analyzer to monitor characteristics of transmission channels. The user equipment can monitor a 600 MHz spectrum and associated channels, for example, to determine if the spectrum is free of interference or is currently occupied. The UE can analyze a received signal strength indication (RSSI), a reference signal received power (RSRP), a reference signal received quality (RSRQ), and signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR), for example, to distinguish between types of interference if a channel is occupied. User equipment (UE) can aggregate data and report such data to a network device further aggregate the data and to generate reports. Network components can be deployed or optimized based at least in part on network metrics provided by individual UEs or aggregated data provided by a plurality of UEs. In some instances, the UE can be a mobile phone of a customer to gather metrics in a distributed manner.

The disclosed technology provides a system and method for scheduling downlink transmissions and for granting uplink frequency resources to a user device such that concurrent transmissions and receptions by the user device, or multiple concurrent transmissions and receptions by the user device, does not lead to deleterious intermodulation distortion or at least minimizes the extent of any such resulting intermodulation distortion.

Smart scheduling for intermodulation distortion avoidance on multiple uplink transmissions

A network terminal, e.g., a smartphone, can retrieve, from a datastore, a cryptographically-signed configuration record including a device identifier of the terminal. The terminal can transmit a request message comprising the configuration record and the device identifier. A network device can verify authenticity of the device identifier and a match between the identifier in the record and the identifier in the message. In response to confirmation of the request by a policy engine, the network device can determine a reply message comprising a cryptographically-signed second configuration record that includes a second device identifier. The terminal can verify that the signature is valid and that the second device identifier matches the device identifier. In response, the terminal can modify data in the datastore according to the second configuration record. The configuration record can lock or unlock the terminal, or determine permitted services or network peers.

Secure updating of telecommunication terminal configuration

A wireless communication system may support two types of networks, such as a 4-Generation (4G) network and a 5-Generation (5G) network. An LTE base station can be configured to broadcast information regarding whether it supports Non-Standalone Architecture (NSA) dual-network connectivity in conjunction with an associated NR base station. A communication device may use one of multiple strategies to determine whether 5G services are actually available at any particular time, and may display a corresponding network technology symbol when 5G services are accessible. The multiple strategies may be stored in non-volatile memory of the communication device. Policy information received from the communication system may specify which of the multiple policies is to be the active strategy, so that the network provider can change strategies without needing to perform a firmware or software upgrade.

Remote management of displayed network technology symbols

Systems and methods for managing multiple network connections for user equipment (UE) are disclosed. The systems and methods can monitor power headroom (PHR) reports on one or more networks. When the PHR report for a UE approaches a first predetermined level on a first network, the system can evaluate the UE for a predetermined amount of time. If during the predetermined amount of time, the PHR on the first network increases to a second predetermined level&#x2014;i.e., to a level where the transmission power used by the UE is closer to a maximum transmission power that the UE can provide&#x2014;the UE can be instructed to disconnect from the network. This can enable the UE to disconnect in a controlled manner rather than simply letting the connection 'drop' due to radio link failure.

Systems and methods for managing cellular multi-connectivity

A unified device design is described. In an example, a user device can be designed to be permissibly operable with at least two different service providers such that the user device is associated with static features that are applicable for each of the at least two different service providers and the dynamic features that are applicable for individual ones of the at least two different service providers. In an example, a user device can be associated with a subscriber identity module (SIM) that is associated with a service provider. Based at least in part on using a permission to determine that the service provider is one of the at least two different service providers, a subset of dynamic features that are associated with the service provider can be accessed for configuring the user device with the subset of the dynamic features corresponding to the service provider.

Multi-operator unified device design

Systems and methods discussed herein are directed to allocating subframes (or slots) of radio frames for LTE uplink transmissions and NR uplink transmissions. In some instances, subframes (or slots) of radio frames may be allocated for LTE downlink transmissions and NR downlink transmissions.

Uplink time division multiplexing pattern for 5G non-standalone devices

Systems and methods discussed herein are directed to selecting and attaching to different cells within wireless communication networks when multiple cells are available. An electronic device determines that a 5G new radio (NR) radio access topology and a non-standalone radio access topology are available within a wireless communication network. The electronic device obtains a bandwidth index for the NR radio access topology and a bandwidth index for the non-standalone radio access topology and compares the two bandwidth indices. Based at least in part on results of the comparison, the electronic device selects one of either (i) the NR radio access topology or (ii) the non-standalone radio access topology and attaches to the selected topology.
