A penile prosthetic includes an insertion tool contained inside of an inflatable bladder of a penile implant. The penile implant is sized for insertion into a dilated corpora cavernosum of a penis. The penile implant has a proximal tip that is insertable into the crus penis, with the inflatable bladder connected to the proximal tip. The inflatable bladder has a first column strength and includes a distal tip that is insertable into the glans penis. The insertion tool provides the inflatable bladder with an effective column strength that is greater than the first column strength.

A suture system spool is configured to retain suture having a suture diameter and tension the suture between a distal and proximal end portions of a suturing tool. The spool includes a monolithically formed disc defining a central opening that provides the disc with an inside diameter. The disc includes a base and a flap joined with the base at the inside diameter, and the flap extends from the inside diameter to an outer periphery of the disc to define a cavity between the flap and the base. The flap is spaced away from the base at a location between the inside diameter and the outer periphery of the disc by a factor of at least two times the suture diameter, and the flap is spaced away from the base at the outer periphery of the disc by a distance that is approximately equal to the suture diameter.

A method of suturing tissue includes driving a needle from a tool through tissue to form a channel in the tissue; inserting the needle into a capsule that is connected to a first length of suture attached to the capsule; engaging the needle with a second length of suture that is inserted through the capsule; and pulling both the first length of suture and the second length of suture through the channel formed in the tissue.

A suturing system includes a tool employed to pull at least two sutures through tissue. The tool includes a head having a proximal portion housing a needle movable through a needle exit port of the head and a distal end spaced apart from the proximal portion by a throat. The distal end of the head defines a cavity. A first suture is durably connected to a capsule that is sized for placement in the cavity. The capsule defines a through-hole sized for engagement with the needle and A second suture is removably insertable into the through-hole. The needle is movable from the proximal portion of the head across the throat to form a channel in tissue and to frictionally engage with the second suture and is retractable into the needle exit port to draw the capsule and the first and second sutures through the channel formed in the tissue.
