The disclosed pavement marking system provides information about the arrangement of the pavement marking to a sensor on a vehicle for to identify a particular lane on a roadway. The pavement marking system comprises a sensor placed on a vehicle and at least a first pavement marking and a second pavement marking, wherein each of the first pavement marking a second pavement marking comprising different properties.

Desired combinations of physical properties can be achieved with a pavement marking composition including non-crosslinked elastomeric materials dispersed within a polymeric material. Notably, the pavement marking composition does not include any reinforcing materials, such as, for example, ceramic fibers, asbestos, silicon dioxide, and/or talc. Despite the lack of reinforcing materials, the pavement marking composition has good tensile strength in both the downweb and crossweb directions.

A distribution cabling tape comprises a resilient polymeric base sheet having a first major surface and a second major surface, the first major surface having a continuous lengthwise channel formed in a first portion thereof. The tape also includes an adhesive layer disposed on a second and third portion of the first major surface, the adhesive layer capable of adhering to a concrete or asphalt surface, such as a road, curb, or walkway.

The inventors of the present disclosure discovered that use of a urea-modified polyurethane coating as the topcoat in a pavement marking tape has numerous advantages. The urea-modified polyurethane topcoat is the reaction product of an aspartic ester polyamine, a polyisocynate, and a polyol. The urea-modified topcoat is adjacent to a base layer. The base layer and topcoat form a pavement marking tape.

The present invention relates to retroreflective elements and retroreflective articles such as pavement markings comprising retroreflective elements, methods of making retroreflective elements, and laminates.

Retroreflective elements and articles

A exposed-lens retroreflective article exhibiting retroreflection under dry and wet conditions is provided. The inventive article comprises a first set of optical elements having a first reflective layer disposed on the embedded portion of the elements. The first set contributes mainly to dry retroreflection. The article further comprises a second set of optical elements having a second reflective layer behind a spacing layer. The second set contributes mainly to wet retroreflection. In one embodiment, the first and second sets of optical elements have substantially the same average diameters, refractive index, and density.

Article exhibiting dry and wet retroreflectivity

The articles of the present invention comprise pavement marking articles which are retroreflective under dry and/or wet conditions. The articles comprise a monolayer of exposed-lens optical elements, a spacing layer, and a reflective layer. The present invention also provides a method of making said pavement marking articles.

Pavement marking articles having enhanced retroreflectivity under dry or wet conditions and method for making same

A pavement marking and methods of making pavement markings are disclosed in which the pavement markings exhibit enhanced wear resistance to, e.g., snowplow blades. The pavement markings include elongated protuberances in which successive elongated protuberances overlap along at least the longitudinal direction and may also overlap in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis. Other protuberances are interspersed between the elongated protuberances to improve retroreflectivity. The elongated protuberances are provided to support, e.g., a snowplow blade moving over the pavement marking.

Wear resistant pavement marking

The present invention comprises a method for making retroreflective elements which are retroreflective under dry and/or wet conditions. The method provides a means for placing optical elements and/or skid-resistant particles on selected surfaces.

Method for making retroreflective elements having enhanced retroreflectivity under dry and/or wet conditions

The articles of the present invention comprise optical elements embedded in either a core having a binder layer which is embedded in a road-binder or optical elements which are directly embedded into a binder layer. The binder layer may be part of a preformed pavement marking tape or may be applied directly to a traffic-bearing surface. The binder layer is comprised of a black pigment. The pavement marking articles of the present invention comprise one or more first region(s) wherein the first region(s) has a daytime appearance of black and is retroreflective. In another embodiment of the present invention, the pavement marking articles further comprise one or more second region(s) having a color which contrasts with black during the daytime and which is typically also retroreflective. The second region(s) is adjacent to the first region(s).
