Polymerization process control methods for making polyethylene are provided. The process control methods include performing a polymerization reaction in a polymerization reactor to produce the polyethylene, where ethylene, and optionally one or more comonomers, in the polymerization reaction is catalyzed by an electron donor-free Ziegler-Natta catalyst and an alkyl aluminum co-catalyst. A melt flow ratio (I/I) of the polyethylene removed from the polymerization reactor is measured and an amount of long chain branching (LCB) of the polyethylene from the polymerization reactor is controlled by adjusting a weight concentration of the alkyl aluminum co-catalyst present in the polymerization reactor. In addition, an electron donor-free Ziegler-Natta catalyst productivity of the polyethylene being produced in the polymerization reactor is measured from which the amount of LCB of the polyethylene from the polymerization reactor is determined using the measured electron donor-free Ziegler-Natta catalyst productivity and a predetermined relationship between the electron donor-free Ziegler-Natta catalyst productivity and the LCB.

Process control for long chain branching control in polyethylene production

Polymerization process control methods for making polyethylene are provided. The process control methods include performing a polymerization reaction in a polymerization reactor to produce the polyethylene, where ethylene, and optionally one or more comonomers, in the polymerization reaction is catalyzed by an electron donor-free Ziegler-Natta catalyst and an alkyl aluminum co-catalyst. The present invention provides compositions useful as a replacement for cellulose ether in cement, plaster or mortar compositions comprising i) nonionic or substantially nonionic vinyl or acrylic brush polymers having pendant or side chain polyether groups, and having a relative weight average molecular weight of from 140,000 to 50,000,000 g/mole, and ii) aromatic cofactors containing one or more phenolic groups, such as catechol tannins, phenolic resins, polyphenolics, and napthhols or, in combination, one or more aromatic groups with at least one sulfur acid group, such as naphthalene sulfonate aldehyde condensate polymers, poly(styrene-co-styrene sulfonate) copolymers, and lignin sulfonates, preferably branched cofactors, including phenolic resins, aldehyde condensate polymers and lignin sulfonates. The compositions may comprise a dry powder blend of i) and ii), one dry powder of both i) and ii), or an aqueous mixture.

Methods for making olefin polymerization catalysts and methods for making polymers using the catalysts are provided. The method for making the catalyst can include combining one or more supports with one or more magnesium-containing compounds under reaction conditions to form a first reacted product. One or more chlorinating compounds selected from the group consisting of aluminum alkyl chlorides and chloro substituted silanes can be combined with the first reacted product under reaction conditions to form a second reacted product. One or more titanium-containing compounds selected from the group consisting of titanium alkoxides and titanium halides can be combined with the second reacted product under reaction conditions to form a catalyst.

Methods for making catalyst compositions and polymer products produced therefrom

Methods for making olefin polymerization catalysts and methods for making polyethylene polymers using the catalysts are provided. The polyethylenes can have a molecular weight distribution (MWD) of about 4.5 to about 14, a slope of strain hardening greater than about 0.75, and a melt flow ratio (MFR) greater than or equal to 8.33+(4.17&#xd7;MWD).

Carbonate blend composition having improved resistance to environmental stress cracking

The present invention provides compositions of phosphorus acid group and methacrylic anhydride group containing telomeric copolymers of methacrylic acid having an as yet never achieved amount of more than 70 wt. %, or, preferably, 72 wt. % or more, and up to 99 wt. %, of methacrylic anhydride groups based on the total weight of polymerized methacrylic acid and/or salt units. The compositions enjoy higher thermal stability than was previously achieved and enable easer processing that does not require the removal of liquids or solvents.

Extrusion coating composition

The instant invention is an improved low-density ethylenic polymer composition and method of making the same. The polymer composition according to instant invention includes a major component, and a minor component. The major component is an LDPE resin having a melt index (I) in the range of about 0.01 dg/min to about 100 dg/min, a M/Mratio of about 2.6 or less, and a melt strength of less than (14.0 e*)cN Jj16 mmor component is an LDPE resin having a melt index (I) of less than about 5 dg/min, a molecular weight distribution of greater than about 7, and a M/Mratio of at least 2.7. The polymer composition of the instant invention may further include additional components.

Low density ethylenic polymer composition and method of making the same

A composition is disclosed which is particularly suited for use in extrusion coating. The composition comprises a polymeric material having a rheology such that the slope S of a natural log-natural log plot of loss modulus (or G&#x2033;) versus storage modulus (or G') is greater than [0.635*(melt index)+13.2]/[(melt index)+16.6], and wherein the polymeric material has a CDF RI fraction less than 0.23 of a GPC chromatogram which has a molecular weight above 85,000 g/mol, and a CDF LS fraction of more than 0.07 at a conventional GPC molecular weight of 1,750,000 g/mol or greater. The compositions exhibit reduced neck-in when used in extrusion coating and the neck-in is independent of melt strength, thereby facilitating improved extrusion processes.

Resin compositions for extrusion coating

Film layers made from formulated ethylene polymer compositions are disclosed. Film layers made from such formulated compositions have surprisingly good heat seal properties, and an especially good reduction in heat seal initiation temperature. The ethylene polymer compositions have at least one homogeneously branched ethylene/alpha-olefin interpolymer and at least one homogeneously or heterogeneously branched ethylene polymer which has a lower melt index than the first mentioned component. The first homogeneously branched ethylene/alpha-olefin interpolymer has a melt index higher than that of the formulated composition.

Film layers made from ethylene polymer blends

Polymer blends are described that include at least one first ethylene interpolymer and at least one second ethylene interpolymer wherein the difference in the number of carbon atoms in the comonomer of the first interpolymer and the comonomer of the second interpolymer is at least two, wherein the first interpolymer and/or the second interpolymer has molecular weight distribution of from about 1.8 to about 2.8; and wherein the polymer blend has a density greater than or equal to 0.90 g/cm. Articles made from such blends are also disclosed.
