A method is provided in a base station for handling a request from a first user equipment for accessing a service in a radio communications network. The method comprises the steps of receiving a first time interval of an incoming signal comprises a first signal sent from the first user equipment and a second signal sent from the second user equipment, interpreting the first signal as being a possible service access request message preamble, and sending an acknowledgement, that the preamble is detected, to the first user equipment. The method comprises the further steps of delaying the first time interval of the incoming signal, identifying the second signal in the first time interval of the incoming signal during the delay, washing the identified second signal away from the first time interval of the incoming signal during the delay, and deciding whether the possible preamble is a real preamble or not, by analyzing the washed incoming signal.

Method for fast acknowledgement and identification of a service access request message or a preamble thereof

An interface, apparatus, and method are described for communication between a radio control (REC) node and first and second radio equipment (RE) nodes in a radio base station that transceives information over radio interface using multiple antenna carriers. The REC node is separate from and coupled to the first RE node by a first transmission link, and the second RE node coupled to the first RE by a second transmission link. Both control information and user information intended for communication between the REC node and the first RE node and the REC and the second RE node are conveyed over the first transmission link. The first RE node also conveys information between the REC and second RE node. Many advantageous features are described.

Interface, apparatus, and method for communication between a radio equipment control node and one or more remote radio equipment nodes

The invention relates to a method for reducing the number of uplink interference peaks during soft handover from a radio base station (RBS A) providing a source cell () to a radio base station (RBS B) providing a target cell () in a cellular mobile communication system. The invention also relates to radio base station (RBS) and a radio network controller (RNC) specifically designed for carrying out the method. The RNC orders RBS B of the target cell to set up a link to a mobile (MS) involved in the soft handover procedure. Further the RNC orders the mobile to start listening for RBS B of the target cell and to synchronize to RBS B. RBS B synchronizes with the mobile in a downlink () but not in the uplink. The invention is characterized in that the RNC orders RBS A to set a RF transmission power floor below which its transmission power must not fall when the mobile receives RBS B in the target cell stronger than RBS A and perceives the signal in the downlink from RBS B too strong. Further the RNC orders RBS A to set said floor active for a predefined period of time.

A control node () of a radio access network () comprises a soft handover unit () and a power control unit (). The soft handover unit () controls a soft handover procedure wherein a user equipment unit () has diversity in radio transmissions with plural radio base stations () comprising an active set of base stations. The power control unit (), during the soft handover procedure, facilitates an adjustment of an uplink power level used by the user equipment unit () for uplink radio transmissions to the plural base stations by an adjustment amount. The adjustment amount is determined to promote uplink synchronization for all radio base stations of the active set. In one example embodiment, the power control unit () comprises a soft handover power boost function () which, during the soft handover procedure, increases the uplink power level used by the user equipment unit () for uplink radio transmissions by the adjustment amount. The adjustment amount is preferably a function of a difference between power levels of downlink reference signals of the active set.

A method and apparatus in a radio telecommunications system for converting data from a first sample rate to a second sample rate such that the first and second sample rates are preferably within 10% of each other are disclosed. An input buffer receives a plurality of data groupings at a first sample rate. A spline filter utilizes the input data along with a phase difference between input and output data to calculate a third order spline function and an output time for the input data. This information is used to convert the input data at the first sample rate to output data at a second sample rate. The output data is buffered within an output buffer until transmitted to an associated base band unit.

Methods and systems for determining a cosine (I) or sine (Q) component for the purpose of modulating a digital signal in radiocommunication systems are disclosed. Exemplary embodiments describe how such determinations may be performed using digital signal processing techniques to improve component accuracy, while reducing the amount of processor memory (e.g., DSP memory) used to accomplish this task. Phase information from a sampled signal is used to access one or more tables containing component values, or a combination of a component base values and difference values between consecutive base values. The phase information can be used derive an offset value from the difference values, which offset value is added to a component base value to provide a component value for output.
