An interface device configured to interface with one or more aircraft avionics data systems and an antenna. The interface device includes a radio and at least one computing device that are housed inside an enclosure. The radio is connected to the antenna. The radio is configured to transmit outgoing messages and to receive incoming messages via the antenna. The at least one computing device is configured to send the outgoing messages to the radio for transmission by the radio via the antenna and to receive the incoming messages from the radio. The radio may be a very high frequency ('VHF') transceiver.

Aviation datalink communications management unit

A radio frequency (RF) power amplifier protection system for a radio. The protection system utilizes a resistive tap connected to the drain of a power amplifier transistor and a high speed voltage detector. The protection system uses short, low-power tests pulses to determine the quality of an antenna load upon tuning the radio to an RF carrier frequency by transmitting the short test pulse. If the measured voltage value exceeds a calibrated value, the power of the RF transmitter is reduced for subsequent operation or the RF transmitter is shut down completely. The invention also includes a system and method for detecting when an antenna is disconnected from a radio using an low frequency AC signal to measure the resistance of an antenna connected to an RF transmitter.

Radio frequency power amplifier protection system

A power efficient, small-packaged radio frequency (RF) transmitter for use in avionics applications. The RF transmitter utilizes Cartesian feedback to operate a power amplifier with Class AB biasing and efficiency, while delivering Class A biasing performance. The RF transmitter includes interstage pads and high pass filters specially configured to meet demanding requirements for both adjacent channel power (ACP) limits and wideband spurious energy limits. The RF transmitter is much smaller in size and dissipates less DC power and heat than previous RF transmitters used in avionics applications.

Power efficient radio frequency transmitter

The invented system includes a beacon affixed to the object subject to loss and a tracker held by the owner of the lost object, the tracker repeatedly, electronically 'interrogating' the beacon with a radio frequency (RF) signal, the beacon repeatedly responding to the interrogation, and the tracker effectively triangulating to determine the lost object's nominal location by a measure of distance and direction. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, the tracker includes one or more antenna each coupled with a power amplifier to determine in real time the distance and direction of the beacon from the tracker. In this embodiment, the tracker indicates both distance and direction of the object-affixed beacon to the tracker-holding owner via a simple color-coded light array. In one embodiment of the invention, the invented antenna of which there is one (or more) includes a helically wound conductor of elliptical cross section disposed around the hollow interior surface of a hollow mandrel.

Object locating apparatus, system and high-gain, high-selectivity antennae therefor

The present invention provides systems and methods for phase shifting signals wherein the phase shifting circuitry may be disposed in a relatively small footprint. The preferred embodiment utilizes PIN diodes to provide switched line phase shifting, wherein the switched lines are microstrip and/or stripline transmission lines of predetermined lengths. To minimize the space required, the switched lines of the preferred embodiment are disposed on different layers of a multi-layered support structure, such as a multi-layer circuit board. Layer changing vias are preferably adapted to provide a constant impedance to thereby make changes in layers in the transmission path electrically transparent to a transmitted signal.
