A method for color correcting an input color image having input color values adapted for display on a reference display device having a plurality of input color primaries to account to provide reduced observer metemaric failure on a narrow-band display device. A metamerism correction transform is applied to the input color image to determine an output color image having output color values in an output color space appropriate for display on the narrow-band display device. The metamerism correction transform modifies colorimetry associated with the input colors to provide output color values such that an average observer metameric failure is reduced for a distribution of target observers.

A color display system providing reduced observer metameric failure for a set of target observers, comprising an image forming system having narrow-band primaries. A data processing system is used to implement a method for color correcting an input color image having input color values adapted for display on a reference display device having a plurality of input color primaries. A metamerism correction transform is applied to the input color image to determine an output color image having output color values in an output color space appropriate for display on the image forming system. The metamerism correction transform modifies colorimetry associated with the input colors to provide output color values such that an average observer metameric failure is reduced for a distribution of target observers.

Display system providing observer metameric failure reduction

A method for modifying original display device pixel values for a display device to maintain colorfulness, the method comprises the steps of obtaining original display device pixel values of an image; measuring white luminance from a viewing surface; and maintaining the colorfulness by calculating new pixel values based on the original display device pixel values, the measured luminance and a standard white luminance.

Color transforming method

Scanner density values of a digitized image of an original film are processed so that a projection of the digitized image closely matches that image which a film projector would produce when projecting the original film. A method comprises the steps of transforming the scanner density values to printing density values; digital color balancing by writing the printing density values and a LAD patch onto film; printing the film is printed to LAD; transforming the images from device dependent color space values into device independent color space values; carrying out a relationship between the device independent color space and a display device output to obtain RGB code values; adjusting any non-linearity between the RGB code values and the display device output; and scaling the adjusted RGB code values to an appropriate bit depth.

Processing film images for digital cinema

Image transfer photographic assemblages, processes, compositions and cover sheets are described which employ a manganous compound. After processing, the manganous compound is capable of diffusing to the silver halide emulsion layer and a redox dye-releaser associated therewith to inhibit further dye release. Post-process D.sub.min stability is thereby improved.

Use of manganous compounds in image transfer elements

Curve shape control, especially for lower scale contrast, of a photographic element is achieved by employing with the silver halide emulsion layer two nondiffusible redox dye-releasing compounds of different relative reactivities, the reactivity of the compound which is more reactive being at least 1.5 times the reactivity of the compound which is less reactive. Preferred compounds are ballasted sulfonamido compounds, each of which has a color-providing moiety attached thereto through a sulfonamido group which is alkali-cleavable upon oxidation. Preferred more reactive sulfonamido compounds have a N,N-disubstituted carbamoyl ballast group. The color-providing moieties can be (1) transferred imagewise to an image-receiving layer to provide a useful image, or (2) can be merely diffused out of the element to provide a retained image therein which can be treated to form a color transparency or a motion picture film.

Mixture of nondiffusible redox dye-releasers for curve shape control

Photographic elements, diffusion transfer assemblages and processes are described which employ redox dye-releasing materials and a zinc salt, such as zinc oxide, in such a form, location and concentration that it will be diffusible in the element during processing, and the dye which is released from the redox dye-releasing material during processing will have an increased stability to light exposure. The zinc salts may be incorporated in the photosensitive portion of a photosensitive element, a processing composition or a cover sheet.
