A transporter can transports a recording medium on a transport belt through a print group with at least one print head. The transport belt has a plurality of holes via which a negative pressure may be produced to draw/hold a recording medium onto the transport belt. To avoid an air flow below the print head, a decoupler can selectively cover, seal, and/or decouple a source of the negative pressure such that no negative pressure is produced through the holes that are located below the print head and that are not covered by a recording medium.

Transporter and method for transporting recording media

In a printing method, a coating substance is applied onto the recording medium depending on spatially resolved temperature data with regard to the temperature of the surface of a recording medium to be printed to in preparation for printing of a print image. The quality of the print image may thus be increased, in particular given the presence of an inhomogeneous curve of the temperature of the recording medium.

Method and controller for setting a property and/or a quantity of a coating substance for a recording medium

A method and a developer station are described. The method and developer station being operable to adapt the inking of an image substrate. The method including applying a voltage across a developer layer on the developer element of the developer station. The application of the voltage causing a current to flow through the developer layer, where the current can be measured. The an indicator of a thickness of the developer layer and/or of the toner quantity in the developer layer is generated based on the voltage and/or the current. The indicator can be used to adjust the inking of the image substrate. For example, the current can be compared to a characteristic curve to generate the indicator.

Method and developer station for adaptation of the inking of an image substrate of a toner-based digital printer

A print group for a digital printer can include a transfer station and a wetting system. The transfer station can be configured to transfer a toner image onto a first side of a recording medium at a transfer point in response to an electrical field, the transfer station being configured to apply the electrical field between a transfer electrode on the first side of the recording medium and a counter-electrode on a second side of the recording medium, wherein the recording medium is directed between the transfer electrode and the counter-electrode. The wetting system can be configure to apply a conductive fluid onto a surface of the second side of the recording medium at the transfer point, the conductive fluid at least partially forming a conductive connecting layer between the surface of the second side of the recording medium and a surface of the counter-electrode at the transfer point.

Method and apparatus to improve toner transfer in a printer

In a method to adjust print quality of print images in an electrophoretic digital printer with at least one print group, the print group generates charge images of the print images. The charge images are developed with a developer station into toner images using liquid developer having carrier fluid and toner. The toner images are transfer-printed onto a carrier medium in a transfer station. A first control marking is generated on the recording medium with elements of the first control marking being aligned transverse to a printing direction. A shape of the elements of the first control marking is measured to generate a first measurement signal. The first measurement signal is compared with a predetermined nominal value, and given a difference, an adjustment signal is generated via which an amount of the carrier fluid in the liquid developer is modified so that the first measurement signal approaches the predetermined nominal value.

Method to adjust the print quality of print images in an electrophoretic digital printer

In a method or system to control a temperature of a substrate to be printed to and which exhibits said temperature during a traversal of a printing system, specifically selecting or controlling a fluid temperature of a liquid fluid to be applied onto the substrate to specifically influence the substrate temperature, the fluid being applied onto the substrate before the substrate is printed to. At least one of the fluid temperature and a quantity of the fluid applied onto the substrate per time unit at least depending on at least one of a first measurement value for a temperature of the substrate before the application of the fluid and a second measurement value for a surface temperature of the substrate after the application of the fluid.

Method to control a substrate temperature, as well as printing system to print to a substrate

In a method or a transfer station for a digital printer, liquid developer with toner particles can be directed towards a first side of a recording medium and onto the first side of the recording medium at a transfer point. A transfer roller can be configured to direct the liquid developer towards the recording medium. The toner particles can have a first polarity and the recording medium can move past the transfer roller along a transport direction. A layer of charged particles can be applied from a second side of the recording medium by a surface charging station. The surface charging station can be arranged before the transfer point in the transport direction. The second side of the recording medium can be opposite the first side. The charged particles can have a second polarity that is opposite the first polarity.

Transfer station for a liquid toner printing system

In a method or system to operate a digital printer for double-side printing to a recording medium with toner particles applied with a liquid developer, the digital printer prints first and second sides of the recording medium in succession. Electrophoretic mobility of toner particles of a first toner image on the first side is reduced after application of said first toner image and before application of the second toner image on the second side of the recording medium. The electrophoretic mobility is reduced by drying the first toner image along a drying route in an airflow generated by a blower such that carrier fluid is thus removed from the first toner image. After the application of the second toner image on the second side of the recording medium, both the first and second toner images are simultaneously fixed.
