In a belt tensioner () for a seat belt comprising an elongate pressure reservoir (), a piston () movably supported in the pressure reservoir () in the longitudinal direction to which piston pressurized fluid can be applied and which in this way can be moved in a tensioning direction (S), a mechanical thrust means () interacting with the piston, the thrust means interacting with a gearwheel () and driving the same in the case of restraint, and comprising a stop () on which the piston () abuts in the tensioning direction in a final position, it is provided that between the piston () and the thrust means () a spacer () in the form of a separate member is provided which is dimensioned such that in the final position of the piston () the thrust means () is urged past the stop () by said spacer. Furthermore there is provided a method of mounting a belt tensioner of this type.

Belt tensioner and method for installing a belt tensioner

A belt retractor includes a retractor frame () having first and second end faces () between which a belt reel () is pivoted. The belt retractor further includes a belt tensioner and a spring cassette () having a helical spring () coupled to the belt reel (). The spring cassette () is arranged between the first end face () of the retractor frame () and at least one component of the belt tensioner. A method of fitting such belt retractor includes mounting the spring cassette () on a component of the belt tensioner, especially on an inside of a tensioner casing () and mounting the belt tensioner including the spring cassette () on the retractor frame (), especially on an end wall () of the retractor frame (). An alternative fitting method includes mounting the spring cassette () on an end wall () of the retractor frame () and attaching the belt tensioner to the spring cassette () mounted on the end wall () of the retractor frame ().

In a belt retractor () having a belt tensioner () and a force-limiting device, the belt tensioner () includes a pivoted pinion gear () associated with a belt reel (), a drive unit () and an oblong force-transmitting element () movable by the drive unit () supported at least partly in a tubular portion () and adapted to be engaged in the pinion gear () so as to rotate the pinion gear () in a tensioning direction (A). The force-transmitting element () includes a bending portion () which is provided at the rear end of the force-transmitting element () viewed in the tensioning direction and which is designed to be pressure-resistant in the longitudinal direction (L) of the force-transmitting element () but to be flexible in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction (L).

A belt tensioner for a belt retractor having a load limiter includes a pivoted pinion () coupled to a belt reel, a drive unit and a load transmission element () moved by the drive unit. The load transmission element () engages in the pinion () so as to rotate the pinion in a tensioning direction A. The load transmission element () is designed so that in the rotational position adopted by the pinion () after being rotated by the load transmission element () a part () of the load transmission element () engages in the pinion (). A method of tensioning a seat belt by means of a belt tensioner and subsequent load limitation by means of a load limiter includes moving a load transmission element () by a drive unit in a first direction so that the load transmission element () engages in a pinion () coupled to a belt reel (). The rotating the pinion () is rotated by the moved load transmission element () in a tensioning direction A. When the rotation of the pinion () is completed it is ensured that a part () of the load transmission element () engages in the pinion ().

A belt tensioner () for a vehicle occupant restraint system comprises a tube () containing gas in the trigger case and an igniter unit () arranged in the tube () which igniter unit is inserted in an open end face () of the tube () and includes a base () and a cap () fastened to the base () for accommodating a propelling charge, wherein the cap () is arranged at least pertly inside the tube. The igniter unit () is welded to the tube ().

Seat belt tensioner for a vehicle passenger restraint system

A drive wheel for a belt tensioner is adapted to be coupled to a belt reel and includes an external tooth system including plural teeth distributed along the circumference. The teeth are inclined in a first circumferential direction and/or the teeth have at least one end face facing away from the central axis of the drive wheel and being inclined in a first circumferential direction and/or the clearances between neighboring teeth are not symmetrical with respect to planes defined by radial and axial directions. The teeth have no symmetry with respect to planes extending tangentially relative to the circumferential direction.

A linear drive has a cylinder, a piston guided displaceably in said cylinder, and a pinion. The piston is provided with teeth which can engage into the pinion in order to rotate the pinion upon displacement of the piston. The drive further has at least one deformable element which prevents blocking when the teeth enter into engagement with the pinion.
