A belt retractor for a vehicle safety belt comprises a frame, a belt reel rotatably mounted in the frame, a belt reel axle with an external toothing, and a pawl. The belt retractor has a sliding clutch by means of which the pawl can be brought to engage in the external toothing, in order to rotate the belt reel.

In a belt tensioner for vehicular seat belt restraining systems the belt reel (16) of a belt retractor is caused to rotate by a linear drive unit via a step-up gear. The linear drive unit comprises a burstproof cylinder tube (42) closed off at both ends and a hollow piston (44) shiftable therein. Within said hollow piston a pyrotechnical propelling charge (50) with an igniter (52) is accommodated. The belt tensioner is distinguished by its compact configuration, low weight and low-cost production as well as by the linear drive unit being safe to handle.

Combined seat belt retractor and tensioner unit

The belt retractor with a belt pretensioner acting on the belt drum (12) has a pyrotechnical piston and cylinder linear drive (22). A rack (32) adapted to be subjected to thrust is connected with the piston (28) of such linear drive (22). The rack (32) is able to be drivingly coupled with the belt drum by the intermediary of a step-up gear wheel transmission (34, 36, 44). After tensioning of the belt, tensions in the safety belt system are limited by plastic deformation of a torsion rod (38), and peak strain values are decreased. The belt retractor is integrated with the belt pretensioner and the energy converter as a compact assembly.

A belt retractor for vehicular seat belt restraining systems is equipped with a novel housing structure. The load-bearing part of this housing comprises a shell section (10) surrounding the locking toothings (26a, 28a) on the circumference of the flanges of the belt reel (18) and the end pieces of which are located one on the other and secured together to form a base plate. Under a high load only tensile forces occur substantially in the shell section (10), whereby the shell section (10) surrounding the locking toothings (26a, 28a) acts as a band brake, thereby relieving the load on the locking pawls (22, 24).

Seat belt retractor

A belt retractor (10) for vehicular seat belt systems has a rotational belt tensioner drive (12) engaging a belt reel (16). A speed-up planetary gearing (26, 28, 30) is inserted in the power flow between the belt tensioner drive (12) and the belt reel (16). The planetary gearing (26, 28, 30) includes a sun gear (26), planetary gears (28) and a ring gear (30).

The invention relates to a belt retractor for vehicular seat belt restraining systems having a spiral retraction spring (16) including a radially inner spring connection on the shaft (12) of the belt reel and a radially outer spring connection on a connecting part (18) firmly connected to the frame. A cylindrical part (141) of a cassette (14) surrounds the retraction spring (16). According to the invention the shaft (12) with the inner spring connection is eccentrically disposed with respect to the cylindrical part (141) of the cassette (14) in such a manner that, when the belt webbing is fully coiled, the outer circumference of the retraction spring (16) is disposed substantially concentrically in the cylindrical part (141) of the cassette (14).

An actuator for a buckle in a vehicle safety belt system is disclosed. A belt tightener engages on the buckle. In operation, the belt tightener moves the buckle towards the vehicle floor to tighten the webbing. An actuating member is arranged at a stationary location so that relative movement occurs between the buckle and the actuating member when the former is moved towards the vehicle bottom. A force transmitting connection permitting such relative movement is provided between the buckle and the actuating member. This connection can be embodied by a flexible cable or by a rack bar and a tooth member cooperating therewith.

Actuating means for a buckle in a safety belt system

A safety belt pretensioner in a restraining system for vehicle occupants includes a reel (54) which is provided with a slot (58) for the passage of the webbing (16) and which comprises a toothing (56) at its outer periphery. The reel (54) is arranged loosely between toothings (42, 44, 52) arranged opposite spaced apart from each other on two opposing spaced apart parallel plates (20d, 40). One of said plates forms a drive plate (40) which is displaceable along the bottom wall (20c) of a frame (20) to which the other plate (20d) is secured as cover plate. A return brake for diminishing energy peaks in the webbing system is formed by a torsion bar (32) on which a gear (34) is mounted via an overrunning clutch (36). The gear (34) is in engagement with a toothing (46) of the drive plate (40). A linear drive engages the drive plate (40) for moving the drive plate (40).

Safety belt pretensioner in a restraining system for vehicle occupants

A safety belt retractor for motor vehicles comprises a belt spool (2) and a belt pretensioner (30), the pyrotechnical drive (32) of which is activatable via an electrical igniter (11) by means of an inertial sensor (10). The belt spool (2) is coupled to the rotor and the base member of the belt retractor to the stator of a current generator (3 to 7), the terminals of which are connected to a current collector (9) via a switch in the electrical igniter (11).

Safety belt retractor for motor vehicles

The locking means for the drive member of a passive safety-belt system includes a pivotally mounted ratchet hook which secures the drive member in its end position corresponding to the belt fastening position. The ratchet hook is arranged on the side of the drive member to which the tensile force occurring at the drive member is directed under accident load. The nose of the ratchet hook dips into a recess at the upper edge of the drive member. Even after high accident stress due to a head-on collision, in which deformation of the loaded parts occurs, the ratchet hook remains reliably in engagement with the drive member.
