Methods, systems, and computer readable media for utilizing ultrasound multiple scattering to assess pulmonary fibrosis are disclosed. One method may comprise transmitting ultrasound energy into the lungs of a subject, detecting portions of the ultrasound energy backscattered by structures in the lungs of the subject, calculating a transport parameter from the detected portions of the ultrasound energy backscattered by the structures in the lungs of the subject, inputting the transport parameter into a model that correlates values of the transport parameter with quantitative indications of severity of pulmonary fibrosis, and receiving, from the model, a quantitative indication of the severity of pulmonary fibrosis for the subject that correlates with the transport parameter for the subject.

Methods, systems, and computer readable media for utilizing ultrasound multiple scattering to access pulmonary fibrosis

An ultrasound system and method are provided for detecting lesions and/or abnormalities in a heterogeneous medium. An array of ultrasound transducer elements configured to emit ultrasound signals and to receive backscattered ultrasound signals. A processor performs a lesion detection algorithm that processes the backscattered ultrasound signals to obtain an Inter-element Response Matrix (IRM), splits the IRM into a plurality of sub-IRMs corresponding to subsets of the ultrasound transducer elements, and then performs additional processing that includes performing a depression detection algorithm to identify one or more lesions and/or abnormalities.

Lesion detection and localization in heterogeneous media

Methods are described for reducing cytoskeletal rearrangement and intercellular gap formation by contacting cells with an aminoalkyl glucosaminide phosphate. In particular, the methods can be used to reduce actin cytoskeletal rearrangement and/or intracellular gap formation related to ischemic or ischemia-reperfusion events and to alleviate diseases or conditions related to increased actin cytoskeletal rearrangement.
