A reproduction machine for producing copies incorporating a control for varying, infinitely over a given range copy shading. The control operates to change the fixed bias potential applied to the magnetic brush type developing rolls by providing through a variable voltage circuit, varying biasing potentials.

A reproducing machine in which a member has successive latent images recorded thereon. The reproducing machine includes a pair of developer units. One developer unit is located in the operative position in the reproducing machine with the other unit being remote therefrom. Each developer unit contains different colored particles. Color changes are achieved by interchanging developer units to develop one latent image with particles of one color and the other latent image with particles of the other color.

An electrostatic reproduction machine has a photoconductive member and a transfer roller in contact therewith, the roller having a texturized surface formed so as to prevent or minimize the possibility of a sheet of paper wrapping itself around the roller as the sheet is passing between the photoconductive member and the roller during the transfer operation.

Improved stripping of a transfer member (having a developed image thereon) from a photoconductive surface of an electrostatic reproduction machine is effected by charging the lead edge of the member with a first charge, and then charging the body of the member having the developed image thereon with a second charge which is different than the first charge. The second charge has a magnitude and polarity which prevents retransfer of the developed image to the photoconductive surface.
