A method includes disposing an intervention service tool within a tubular. The intervention service tool includes an anchoring system, a shifting system, and a linear actuator system. The tubular includes a shifting profile geometry disposed within the tubular at a first location. The anchoring system, the shifting system, and/or the linear actuator system is actuated. Shifter system pressure, linear actuator system force/pressure, and displacement of the shifting system is measured. A known graph of the shifting profile geometry is compared to one or more of a measured pressure, a measured force, or a measured displacement. A position of a key disposed on the shifting system is determined relative to the shifting profile. The shifting profile geometry is engaged with the key based on the position of the key. The shifting profile geometry is positioned at a second location that is different from the first location.

A wireline shifting tool comprising an anchor, a linear actuator, and a shifter may be at least partially controlled by one or more measurements indicating an amount of force applied to the anchor, the linear actuator, the shifter, or a combination thereof. Apparatus and methods for autonomously shifting a downhole sliding sleeve. A shift tool includes a shifter arm, an artificial neural network, and a control circuit. The artificial neural network is trained to identify engagement of the shifter arm with a shifting feature of a sliding sleeve. The control circuit is configured to extend the shifter arm at a first pressure for seeking engagement with the shifting feature of the sliding sleeve, and responsive to the artificial neural network recognizing engagement of the shifter arm with the shifting feature of the sliding sleeve, extend the shifter arm at a second pressure for shifting the sliding sleeve.

System and method for wireline shifting

A service tool that may be inserted into a tubular, the service tool includes an anchoring system. The anchoring system includes a body having a first end, a second end, and an opening extending along a portion of the body between the first end and the second end and a gripping assembly housed within and coupled to the body. The gripping assembly may anchor at least a portion of the service tool to the tubular, and the gripping assembly includes a plurality of anchor arms disposed within the opening and that may move relative to the body. The anchoring system also includes an actuator disposed within a central bore of the body and coupled to the gripping assembly. The actuator may apply a first axial input force in a first direction and a second axial input force in a second direction opposite the first direction to the gripping assembly, At least a portion of the gripping assembly translocates relative to the body in the first direction in response to the first axial input force to position the plurality of anchor arms in a radially expanded anchoring configuration, and the portion of the gripping assembly translocates relative to the body in the second direction in response to the second axial input force to position the plurality of anchor arms in a radially contracted configuration.
