A method for protecting concrete surfaces of sanitary sewers includes the steps of providing a concrete surface in a sanitary sewer environment; and coating the concrete surface with magnesium hydroxide or magnesium oxide.

Flat, rectangular composite insulation comprising two dissimilar insulating materials on a separate flexible backing material is described. At least one of the two dissimilar materials is rigid. V-grooves are formed in the dissimilar materials extending from the surface of the insulation opposite of the flexible backing up to, but not through the flexible backing. The V-grooving permits the rigid composite insulation to be fitted to a curved surface such as a pipe.

An anchor system including a C-track and a two-pronged anchor capable of installing and holding sheet insulation material on a support surface in a compressed state is described. The method of installation utilizing the anchor system of the present invention provides for both the attachment of the insulation to the support surface and compression of the insulation during a single installation operation. The method involves forming a plurality of folds with the sheet insulation to a desired height followed by the insertion of one prong of the two-pronged anchor through the folds to compress the folds and hold the folds in position. The second prong of the anchor initially serves to aid in the compression of the folds and secondarily serves to connect the compressed insulation to a next layer of folds formed and stacked on top of the already formed folds. The use of a separate attachment means with each fold of the insulation material is not required. The anchors can optionally contain a means of interengaging the anchors.

Anchor system for installing and holding sheet insulation functionally

A module of the type used in insulating the wall of a high-temperature furnace comprising a planar face, a hub joined and extending rearwardly from substantially the mid-point of the surface opposite the planar face, and a plurality of radial members extending outwardly from the hub is described. Preferably the entire module is integral. The module can be used in combination with an attachment which fits over the hub for attaching the module to a furnace wall. Blanketing material can be used with the module to vary the heat-insulating characteristics of the module. The module, which is easily attached to a furnace wall, can be cut along any of its edges without varying the heat-insulating characteristics of the module, permitting the installation of the modules on a furnace wall without substantial pre-engineering.

An insulation structure for a heat chamber, e.g., a wall or ceiling for a furnace, is now supported and linked to a frame in a manner providing for ease of repair plus simplicity of maintenance. In one embodiment a series of side-by-side ceramic fiber blankets can be maintained in snug relationship, in part by adjustable compression means. Heat loss, which can otherwise be caused by heat induced ceramic fiber shrinkage, is now substantially reduced to eliminated by the manner of supporting the insulation structure coupled with the compression exerted against such structure.

Cover for a ladle or the like

A lightweight cover provides heat insulation for a heated vessel such as a soaking pit. The cover can be readily assembled in a manner providing for ease of repair plus simplicity of maintenance. The cover has a pair of opposing frame members with ceramic fiber insulation positioned therebetween. The insulation is secured in movable engagement such as a free-floating and swinging engagement. In this mode, compression can be exerted against the insulation to most desirably reduce heat loss otherwise caused by heat induced ceramic fiber shrinkage. Moreover, with this structure a ceramic fiber heat seal can be achieved around edges of the soaking pit.

Readily repairable and lightweight cover for a heated vessel

A lightweight cover provides heat insulation for a heated metal container, e.g., a ladle. The insulation cover is assembled in a manner providing for ease of repair plus simplicity of maintenance. The assembly has a frame member with depending guide means useful for straddling engagement with the container. Frame member impact assemblies provide resilient mounting of the cover on the container. Ceramic fiber insulation is placed within the frame and abuts upwardly against a roof over the insulation. The insulation is secured to the roof. Stiffeners above the roof connect with the frame member. The entire insulation cover assembly is most particularly useful for retarding radiant and conductive heat loss from the container.

Readily repairable and lightweight insulating cover for a heated metal

Moreover, with this structure a ceramic fiber heat seal can be achieved around edges of the soaking pit.

A forge furnace chamber has rear, side and top walls each defined by an expanded sheet metal member and U-shaped mats of ceramic fiber insulating material supported thereon. First ones of the U-shaped mats have the closed ends thereof abutting the corresponding expanded sheet metal member with the legs of each mat extending inwardly of the chamber, and second ones of the mats have their closed ends facing inwardly of the chamber with the legs of each mat receiving the adjacent legs of an adjacent pair of the first mats therebetween, whereby the closed ends of the second mats extend across the inner ends of the adjacent legs of the first mats. The interleaved mats of insulating material are supported on the corresponding expanded sheet metal member by metal rods extending between the legs of the first mats adjacent the closed ends thereof and wire ties fastening the rods to the expanded sheet metal member.
