A connector employs a glass sleeve having a ceramic ferrule fixed in one end and containing an optical fiber having its presentation end factory ground. The opposite end of the glass sleeve is formed to receive a fiber during a field installation. The middle portion of the sleeve contains an elastomeric pair which receives the ends of the fibers.

Field installable fiber optic connector

A fiber optic splicing system for accomodating optical fibers having similar or distinctly different buffered coating sizes. The system comprises a first pair of housing halves forming a body with opposed ends adapted to receive two optical fiber of a first similar size; a second pair of housing halves forming a body with opposed ends adapted to receive two optical fibers of a second similar size, different from said first size; and a third pair of housing halves forming a body having one end formed to receive one of said first size of optical fiber and another end formed to receive one of said second, different size of optical fiber. Holding means in the form of slidable end caps cooperate with the ends of the housing to apply radial compression thereto to maintain the fibers in position without the use of crimps or adhesives.

Fiber optic splice assembly

A fiber optic splicing system for accommodating optical fibers having similar or distinctly different buffered coating sizes. The system comprises a first pair of housing halves forming a body with opposed ends adapted to receive two optical fiber of a first similar size; a second pair of housing halves forming a body with opposed ends adapted to receive two optical fibers of a second similar size, different from said first size; and a third pair of housing halves forming a body having one end formed to receive one of said first size of optical fiber and another end formed to receive one of said second, different size of optical fiber. Holding means in the form of slidable end caps cooperate with the ends of the housing to apply radial compression thereto to maintain the fibers in position without the use of crimps or adhesives. A center portion of the halves can be formed to accept elastic means for receiving fibers or, alternatively, a hollow sleeve which includes the elastic means therein.

A lens for an optical fiber is formed on the end of a capillary glass tube which is then fitted over an optical fiber. The lens can be formed by mounting a capillary tube in a spindle, and rotating and heating the end of the tube until centrifugal force forms the lens as a bulbous portion.

Expanded beam fiber optic lens

A connector housing for use with a flex board having openings therethrough completely surrounded by the flex board surface. The housing includes a top portion which pivots to open and closed positions relative to a bottom portion. Ribs extend from the bottom portion for flex board alignment and ribs extend from the top portion which interdigitate with the bottom ribs and cause the conductors on the flex board to be electrically coupled to respective contacts of the connector housing.

Fiber optic lens

Plated-through-holes of printed circuit boards are segmented to provide a plurality of conductors. Matching connector pins having insulating cores and patterned conductive portions are mated with the conductors of the plated-through-holes. Each of the conductors of the holes can be connected to a different one of the patterns on the printed circuit boards thus forming a high density interconnect system.

An electrical connecting device for use with a multiple layered circuit-containing device wherein at least two layers of the multiple layered circuit-containing device each contain a circuit including a plurality of circuit contacts to be electrically connected by the electrical connecting device. The electrical connecting device includes an upper longitudinal peripheral surface joined to a lower longitudinal peripheral surface by an intermediate longitudinal surface to form an elongated member which has a Z-shaped configuration in cross section and is formed from a plurality of Z-shaped connectors shaped from each other in a predetermined amount to effect a moire pattern when superimposed relative to the circuit contacts of at least one of the layers.

A spring contact switch for a printed circuit board includes a flexible spring contact member affixed to a circuit board at one end and operatively available at an opposite end and an electrical component affixed to the circuit board with a lead member forward for contact by said flexible spring contact member.
