Modified lignin products, processes for making them, and their use to produce rigid polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foams are disclosed. The processes comprise heating a lignin source with a nitrogen source and a starved concentration of a C-Caldehyde to give a reaction mixture comprising a Mannich condensation product, neutralizing the reaction mixture, and isolating the modified lignin product. The process is performed at a mass ratio of lignin source to nitrogen source within the range of 1:1 to 1:5 and at a molar ratio of nitrogen source to C-Caldehyde within the range of 3.5:1 to 1:1. Polyol blends and performance additives that contain the modified lignin products are described. Rigid foams that process well and incorporate up to 60 wt. %, based on the amount of polyol component, of the modified lignin contribute to excellent flame retardancy and low-temperature R-value performance.

A reinforced hose includes an inner layer, a reinforcing intermediate layer, and an outer layer. The inner layer has and inwardly projecting sealing rib extending circumferentially on an inner surface thereof. The inner surface may also have an end stop to be engaged by a fitting received in the hose. The outer layer has a pair of annular clamp guides projecting outwardly which are axially spaced from an end of the hose. The sealing rib is positioned between the clamp guides to indicate an optimum location for a hose clamp.

A freestanding automotive tire and wheel cover comprises a shell that is open against the ground and inside the wheel well adjacent to an interior sidewall of a tire. The bottom edge of the shell rests on the ground. The shell protects the outer sidewall and tread from ultraviolet radiation, weather and other damaging elements. The shell may include corner braces or a flared section for extra rigidity and support, or a separate base member may be attached to the shell for the same purpose. A retention strap is secured to the shell by buckles or snaps. An inner wheel shroud provides extra security is attaching to the tire and wheel and protects most of the interior side of the tire and wheel. The shells may be tapered to permit multiple shells to nest together and a planar sidewall cover permits attachment of a decal.

A one component moisture-curing polyurethane adhesive composition having a long pot life that does not cause its user to experience breathing difficulty is described. A compression or jacking ring includes a first component constructed of two layers of a material that is comparatively non-elastic and has a Poisson's ratio preferably not greater than 0.3. A second component that is comparatively elastic and has a comparatively high Poisson's ratio is sandwiched between sections of the first component. The compression ring is sized and shaped to be positioned between facing surfaces of pipe sections in a string of pipe sections utilized for forming a pipe within a pipe receiving tunnel. In particular, the compression ring is constructed to transfer a load between adjacent pipes during insertion of the pipes into a tunnel so as to spread the load over a comparatively large surface area if the pipe sections become non-axially aligned relative to one another during insertion so as to reduce the likelihood of breakage.

A modified polyurethane structionally incorporating filler having active hydrogen groups on a surface thereof into a polyurethane polymer. The filler is first fluidized with a polyol and then reacted with a linking component having an organo reactive group that is reactive with an isocyanate. Polyisocyanate and additional polyol are added to the reaction mixture such that the isocyanate reacts with the linking component and the polyol to form a polymer wherein the filler is an integral unit in the polymer. The resultant modified polyurethane has good dynamic properties and is surprisingly resilient. Preferred fillers are sand, clay talc and mixtures thereof.
