Fiber optic sensors include sensor regions in which an optical phase is modulated by an analyte to be detected. A long period fiber grating (LPG) is coupled to a coating that is arranged to selectively interact with the analyte. The resulting phase change is detected based on a transmission spectrum associated with the LPG so that analyte is detected and quantified. A plurality of such sensors is distributed along a fiber to form a sensor array that can be situated to detect analyte at a plurality of discrete regions.

Fiber optic sensor for measurement of carbon dioxide

The present invention provides a composition for use as an antifouling agent and a method of decreasing fouling of a surface in a marine environment. The composition is a polymeric matrix, the polymeric matrix comprising subunits of at least one structural monomer and at least one ionic monomer. The ionic monomer comprising a salt, that is an anion that is a conjugate base of an acid having a pKless than about 9 and at least one cation that is a cationic biocide. One embodiment includes guanidinium counterions that undergo ion exchange to slowly release a biocidal component.

Microbiocidal properties of poy-substituted guanidinium salts

An ion exchange membrane for use in sensors which measure dissolved gases. Disclosed is a method for using ion exchangers in gas permeable membranes to maintain optimal conditions in the electrolyte contained within the sensor. This can greatly extend the lifetime and improve the stability relative to sensors of similar size and electrolyte volume that have been constructed using prior art.

It has been found that certain chemicals such as peroxide may be concentrated in an aqueous solution by increasing the pH of a feed liquor to increase the amount of the chemcial in an ionized form, i.e. increase the ionized fraction and then separating the feed liquor by reverse osmosis through a reverse osmosis membrane into a retentate having an enhanced concentration of chemical in ionized form relative to the feed liquor and a permeate having a reduced concentration of chemical in ionized form relative to the feed liquor. The process is particularly suited to increasing the concentration of hydrogen peroxide.
