The invention converts a document originating in a page-image format into a form suitable for an arbitrarily sized display, by reformatting or 're-flowing' of the document to fit an arbitrarily sized display device. A two-stage system analyzes, or 'deconstructs,' page image layout. The deconstruction includes both physical (geometric) and logical (functional) segmentation of page images. The segment that image elements may include blocks, lines, and/or words of text, and other segmented image elements. The segment that image elements are synthesized and converted into an intermediate structure. The intermediate data structure is then distilled or converted or redisplayed into any number of standard print formats.

Method and system for document image layout deconstruction and redisplay

A print management system includes a policy that determines a protection level for a document to be printed. The document is printed using forgery detection and deterrence technologies, such as fragile and robust watermarks, glyphs, and digital signatures, that are appropriate to the level of protection determined by the policy. A plurality of printers are managed by a print management system. Each printer can provide a range of protection technologies. The policy determines the protection technologies for the document to be printed. The print management system routes the print job to a printer that can apply the appropriate protections and sets the appropriate parameters in the printer. Copy evidence that can establish that a document is a forgery and/or tracing information that identifies the custodian of the document and restrictions on copying of the document and use of the information in the document are included in the watermark that is printed on the document. A document can be verified as an original or established as a forgery by inspecting the copy evidence and/or tracing information in the watermark.

Systems and methods for forgery detection and deterrence of printed documents

A search and recommendation system employs the preferences and profiles of individual users and groups within a community of users, as well as information derived from shared document bookmarks, to augment Internet searches, re-rank search results, and provide recommendations for documents based on a subject-matter query. The search and recommendation system operates in the context of a shared bookmark manager, which stores individual users' bookmarks (some of which may be published or shared for group use) on a centralized bookmark database connected to the Internet. The shared bookmark manager is implemented as a distributed program, portions of which operate on users' terminals and other portions of which operate on the centralized bookmark database.

System and method for searching and recommending documents in a collection using share bookmarks

The Pendulum Whiteboard Printer is a fully-automatic robotic device for marking or otherwise effecting whiteboards, pinboards, or other vertical surfaces. The physical device consists of an effector platform suspended by two suspension wires whose lengths are adjusted by motorized spindles mounted above and on either side of the board surface. The position of the effector platform is adjusted by winding and unwinding the wires. Methods are provided for using the Pendulum Whiteboard Printer to perform various actions and for moving the effector platform to a desired location.

Method for effecting actions over vertical surfaces

The Pendulum Whiteboard Printer is a fully-automatic robotic device for marking or otherwise effecting whiteboards, pinboards, or other vertical surfaces. The physical device consists of an effector platform suspended by two suspension wires whose lengths are adjusted by motorized spindles mounted above and on either side of the board surface. Electrical power is supplied to the effector platform through the suspension wires or through an on-board battery. Control of a pen and/or other apparatus on the effector platform is achieved through modulation of the power voltage. A further component of this invention is electronic and computational apparatus for controlling the device, which may include automatic visual interpretation and feedback from a video camera viewing the board and printer.

System for effecting actions over vertical surfaces

A system and method for tagging sheets of recording material, so that the origin of the sheets and the authenticity of the sheets may be determined, includes a roller that applies at least a portion of the random pattern to the document. The random pattern is applied by imprinting, embossing, or by piercing the sheet. The pattern applied to the sheet can be determined by any known forensic technique and the pattern can be imaged and stored in a database. A series of rollers may apply phase shifted random patterns to one side or both sides of the sheet. The phase shift of the random patterns may be determined to establish a sequence code. The roller or rollers including the random patterns may be installed in an image forming apparatus, preferably in a sheet transport mechanism of the image forming apparatus.
