A photodetector integrated circuit (IC) having an electromagnetic interference (EMI) sensor integrated therein is provided for sensing EMI at the photodetector. Integrating the EMI sensor into the photodetector IC ensures that the EMI sensor is in proximity to the photodetector so that any EMI that is sensed is actually EMI to which the photodetector is exposed. The sensed EMI may then be used for a number of reasons, such as to determine the root cause of damage to circuitry of the system, to determine the point in time at which an EMI event occurred, or to trigger a warning when a determination is made that an EMI limit has been reached.

The invention relates to an electromagnetic screening structure on or in a non-conductive carrier material in which non-conductive metal compounds are placed. The screening structure comprises a flat metal seed layer formed on or in the carrier material, which is formed through metal seeds that have been released through electromagnetic radiation, and a flat metal coating which is applied over the metal seed layer and which is in contact with said metal seed layer. The invention additionally relates to an electronic or optoelectronic used with the screening structure and a method for manufacturing the screening structure. In a further aspect of the invention, an electronic or optoelectronic assembly is provided with a carrier element, wherein at least one additional electrical or optoelectronic component is arranged on the surface of the carrier material and is in contact with conductor path structures formed on the carrier surface.

A molded interconnect device (MID) optical connector includes a molded plastic body and a metal retaining clip. The body has a receptacle portion shaped to receive and guide a mating optical fiber ferrule into a connected position. In the connected position, the end of a fiber retained in the ferrule is in optical alignment with an opto-electronic device in the MID optical connector. The retaining clip has one or more contact portions that extend into the receptacle portion of the body and exert a spring force upon the ferrule to retain and stabilize it in the connected position.

A docking station is provided with a SerDes component, one or more peripheral device I/O ports, and at least one high-speed serial I/O port for interfacing the docking station with a high-speed serial communications link. A portable device that can be docked on the docking station is also provided with a high-speed serial I/O port. A high-speed serial communications link is provided between the high-speed serial I/O port of the docking station and the high-speed serial I/O port of the portable device to enable serial data to be communicated between the portable device and the docking station. Providing the serial communications link obviates the need for a large connector with a high pin count for interfacing the portable device with the docking station. In addition, the inclusion of the SerDes component in the docking station eliminates the need for a southbridge IC on the motherboard of the portable device, or at least enables a southbridge IC having less complexity to be used on the motherboard of the portable device.

The invention relates to a method and a device for operating an optical transmitting device having a plurality of optical transmitters that can be driven independently. The method includes detecting the parameter values of the individual transmitters, comparing the parameter values determined with one another and/or with a prescribed comparison value, and selecting one of the transmitters for the communication operation of the transmitting device based on the comparison. The method further includes operating the transmitting device with the selected transmitter.

An electronic display includes a light source system and a light guide system, where the light guide system emits light features laterally, i.e., from the side, at selected positions along its length. The light source system includes one or more electronically controllable light sources and further includes optical switches or other arrangements for coupling the light sources to the optical fibers or other light guides of the light guide system. The light source system can sequentially or progressively increase the selected longitudinal position at which the light feature is emitted, resulting in the appearance of movement of the light feature along the length of the light guide system.

The invention relates to a method for optimizing the optical power in an optical network that has a plurality of network nodes each having a transmitter and a receiver. The method comprising generating an optical signal at a first network node, receiving the optical signal at a second network node, detecting the optical power of the optical signal at the second network node, determining whether the optical power detected is outside a defined range, and in this case, generating, for the first network node, a control signal for increasing or decreasing the optical power, sending the control signal to the first network node, and increasing or decreasing the optical power of the optical signal emitted at the first network node. The invention further relates to an optical network having network nodes which are operable to implement this method.

An optocoupler, for converting optical signals into electrical signals and vice versa, includes a package with a jack connector for receiving an optical waveguide. On a lower side of the package, surface-mountable outer contacts are arranged on an interconnection film. A mounting position for semiconductor chips, including one optical semiconductor chip and one application-specific semiconductor chip, is provided in the package on the optical axis of the optical waveguide. The optical semiconductor chip is aligned with the optical axis inside the package. The outer contacts are arranged outside the package on the flexible interconnection film. Between the mounting position and the outer contacts, the interconnection film includes a curved region which is embedded in the package material such that the surface-mountable outer contacts on the lower side of the package are freely accessible.

The invention relates to an optoelectronic arrangement which has a transmission component which emits electromagnetic radiation, a receiving component which detects a portion of the radiation emitted from the transmission component, and a transparent material which at least partially surrounds the transmission component and the receiving component and provides a boundary surface between the arrangement and the environment. In this case, a portion of the light which is emitted from the transmission component is reflected in the transparent material and/or on the boundary surface of the transparent material, and is detected by the receiving component. The invention also relates to a method for controlling the output power of a transmission component by means of a receiving component which detects a portion of the radiation which is emitted from the transmission component.
