A method, system, and medium are provided for efficiently providing multimedia services from a multimedia system. A script server is included with the multimedia system to host common scripts for invoking media-related functions from media servers. When an application server within the multimedia system runs an application and determines a media-related function is required, a script for the required media-related function is accessed from the script server. The script is run to invoke the media-related function from a media server.

Methods and systems are provided for using voiceprint technology in CALEA surveillance. A media-analysis platform receives packets from a bearer element, the packets comprising media data representing a copy of at least part of a real-time media session. The bearer element is configured to initially send to the platform a copy of each of a plurality of media sessions that traverse the bearer element, and to stop sending a copy of a particular session in response to receiving an instruction from the platform. Responsive to receiving the packets, the platform compares the media data to at least one media-data profile, where each profile is associated with a target of surveillance. The platform determines whether the data matches any of the profiles. If the data does not match any of the profiles, the platform sends an instruction to the bearer element to stop sending the copy of the session.

Using voiceprint technology in CALEA surveillance

A communication system receives a registration message from a device that identifies a location of the device and a device identifier. The system transmits the location of the device to a location database. The system receives a watch list that identifies a plurality of devices. The system also receives a session request from the device for a session. The system processes the device identifier to determine if the device is a one of the plurality of devices. In response to determining that the device is one of the plurality of devices, the system transfers the location of the device from the location database to a location reporting system.

Location reporting system

Methods and systems are provided for natural-language surveillance of packet-based communications. Speech data is received, representing at least part of a speech session. The speech data is compared with at least one speech-characteristics profile in an automated manner. The comparing step comprises using natural-language-processing (NLP) to compare the speech data with the profiles on at least one of a lexical level, a syntactic level, a semantic level, a discourse level, and a pragmatic level. It is determined in an automated manner whether the speech data matches any of the profiles. If the speech data matches at least one profile, an indication that the speech data matches the at least one matching profile is responsively stored.

Natural-language surveillance of packet-based communications

A call is established between a circuit-switched network element and a packet-switched network element. A first call record is generated to record the circuit switched network element's involvement in the call, and a second call record is generated to record the packet-switched network element's involvement in the call. The first and second call records include the same call identification information to identify the call. The call identification information may include an internetwork call identifier, an identification of a carrier or service provider associated with the call, and other information that, in combination, uniquely identifies the call. The first and second call records are stored, e.g., in a centralized call record repository. Call records for a given call can be retrieved based on the call identification information for the given call.

Method and system for identifying calls

A call is established between a circuit-switched network element and a packet-switched network element. A first call record is generated to record the circuit switched network element's involvement in the call, and a second call record is generated to record the packet-switched network element's involvement in the call. The first and second call records include the same internetwork call identifier to identify the call. The first and second call records are stored, e.g., in a centralized call record repository. Call records for a given call can be retrieved based on the internetwork call identifier for the given call.

A distributed service node includes a voice browser, media resources, such as automatic speech recognition (ASR) engines and text-to-speech (TTS) engines, and a resource manager. A media gateway converts between a pulse code modulation (PCM) format used in a circuit-switched telephone network and a real-time packet media format used by the distributed service node. A caller places a call to telephone number associated with the media gateway, and a real-time packet media session is established between the media gateway and the distributed service node. The voice browser queries a location server to determine the location of an interactive application associated with the called telephone number and then queries an application server corresponding to the location to obtain the interactive application as a voice extensible markup language (VXML) document. The browser interprets the VXML document and responsively invokes the media resources to provide an interactive media service to the caller.

Distributed interactive media system and method

A communication network comprising a first node and a second node. The first node is configured to transfer a first control message for a call having an inbound call path and an outbound call path wherein the first control message indicates a release request. The second node is configured to receive the first control message from the first node and process the first control message to determine if the second node has two legs of the inbound call path. If the second node has two legs of the inbound call path, a second control message is transferred to a third node in the outbound call path wherein the second control message indicates the release request.

Call release in a communication network

An interactive media system for an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture includes a media resource function processor (MRFP) and a media resource function controller (MRFC). The MRFP includes media resources, such as automatic speech recognition (ASR) engines and text-to-speech (TTS) engines, and a voice browser. A caller places a call to a telephone number to reach an interactive media service, and the MRFC establishes a real-time packet media session between the media gateway and the MRFP. The voice browser queries a location server to determine the location of an interactive application associated with the called telephone number and then queries an application server corresponding to the location to obtain the interactive application as a voice extensible markup language (VXML) document. The browser interprets the VXML document and responsively invokes the media resources, via the MRFC, to provide the interactive media service to the caller.

IMS-based interactive media system and method

A communication network comprising a first node and a second node, the first node configured to transfer a first control message for a call having an inbound call path and an outbound call path wherein the first control message indicates a release request and a carrier, the second node configured to receive and process the first control message to determine if the second node is associated with the first node. If the second node is associated with first node, the second node processes the first control message to determine if the second node has two legs of the inbound call path. The second node transfers a second control message to a third node downstream in the outbound call path if the second node has two legs of the inbound call path. The second node transfers the second control message to a fourth node upstream in the inbound call path if the second node is not associated with the carrier.

Carrier based call release

First and second voice interactive response systems operate in tandem. The first voice response system receives a call from a caller and interacts with the caller to provide information to the caller and/or obtain information from the caller. To make additional media services (e.g., automatic speech recognition or text-to-speech conversion) available for the interaction with the caller, the first voice response system extends the call to a second voice response system that is able to provide the additional media services.
