A system and method are provided which enable a print media color to be used, as a replacement for a mixture of one or more colorants, in rendering portions of a print job. One or more multidimensional look-up tables are provided. Each table provides for an identified input color, in a device-independent space, to be equated to no colorant, when printed on the respective print media. The identified input color is one of a set of input colors, which, when printed and measured, has an output color that is closest to a measured color of the print media.

System and method for printing colored media when input color matches media color

An image processing system and method provide for receiving a digital document page to be printed. The page includes a background region for which no color is specified. A user is presented with an option to select a print medium from a set of print media of different colors and to select an option for a color of the selected print medium be used as a color of a background layer of the digital document page. When the option is selected, a background layer is inserted into the page. A print job incorporating the processed digital document page is output to an associated printer that is configured to convert the color of the background layer to colorant values that use the print media as a colorant for rendering at least a part of the background region.

According to aspects illustrated herein, there is provided a user interface system for preparing an output document of a digital printing device having a user interface, a set of output options for the output document. The user interface enables selection of at least one output option from the set of output options. The system further provides a display device operatively connected to the user interface and configured to display at least one user interface mimic for the output document, with the at least one user interface mimic providing a graphical representation of the output document based on selection of the output options. After displaying the at least one user interface mimic, the user interface allows users to modify the output options prior to printing the output document. Then, the system updates the display of the at least one user interface mimic, based on modifications to the output options, prior to printing the output document.
