An adjustable footrest for use on a chair to comfortably accommodate the feet of a user. Defined on the underside of the mounting plate is an elongated hollow housing which receives the essential moving elements of the footrest mechanism. Positioned within the hollow housing is a gas cylinder that contains an actuator pin located on a piston at the upper end of the cylinder. Located near the bottom of the hollow housing is a pair of outwardly projecting legs to which is pivotally mounted an elongated leg. A portion of the leg is positioned within the housing and is pivotally mounted to the connection end of the gas cylinder. The other end of the leg extends away from the hollow housing and terminates in a tranversely positioned footrest. Pulling the handle in an upward direction presses the actuator pin within the gas cylinder, thus releasing the piston. While the user maintains the handle in its top position, the user may then exert a downward force on the footrest. Which causes the bottom leg to pivot and, thus, urge the piston into the cylinder. When the footrest is in a desired position, the handle is released. The footrest maintains a rigid position throughout its range of movement by having the gas cylinder filled with oil on the compression stroke.

Adjustable footrest for a chair

A lock assembly of the type including a shell that receives a core having key-operated tumblers that coact with grooves in the shell. A plug having no tumblers replaces the core. The plug is insertable into the shell and pivotable about an axis within the shell and is retained within the shell.

Universal lock plug

A back support control mechanism for a chair or the like is provided for a back support movable toward and away form a seat. Adjustable positioning of the back support with respect to the seat in an infinite number of positions in a range of movement of the back support is provided through use of a channel member fixed with respect to the seat and a pressure pad positioned within the channel member and fixed with respect to the back support. The pressure pad slides within the channel member, and a lever is coupled to the pressure pad through a spring plate. The lever is movable with the pressure pad and with respect thereto, and has a cam surface thereon which, in one position of the lever with respect to the pressure pad, bears against the pressure pad through the spring plate, causing the pressure pad to bear against the channel member to fix the pressure pad in position with respect to the channel member and to prevent further movement of the pressure pad, thereby to fix the position of the back support with respect to the seat. A stop pin is carried by the channel member which extends into a slot in the pressure pad. A terminal end of the slot limits the range of movement of the back support with respect to the seat.

Back support control mechanism for a chair or the like

A reclining chair having a seat portion connected pivotally at its forward end includes an arm compressible with progressive resistance to support the rear of the seat portion. The compressible arm is arranged to form with the seat portion an angle which continually decreases as the chair is reclined, and continually increases as the chair is returned to its upright position. In one embodiment, the compressible arm travels through a horizontal position so that it may be kept as close as possible to the horizontal at all times.

Reclining chair

A cover at one end of a rod member is pivotably connected to one end of a bracket by a pin. The bracket and cover are U-shaped in transverse section. A portion of the cover overlies a portion of the bracket in all positions of the cover. The cover is journaled on bosses on the bracket and circumscribes the pin.

Ball and socket safety hinge

An infant carrier has a handle which can be detachably coupled to a hanger on a swing. The handle is U-shaped and pivotably connected at its free ends to the carrier shell body by a latch means so that the handle can be latched in different angular positions.
