A method and system for reducing and affixing two separated bone segments, the system having a bone plate with a pair of positioning slots, and a pair of elongated manipulating members with anchoring structures, the anchoring structures sized to pass through the positioning slots and for advancement into the bone segments. The bone plate is loosely mounted to the bone segments across the separation gap and a manipulating member is screwed into each bone segment through a positioning slot. The manipulating members are then used to reposition the bone segments by moving them together longitudinally within the slots. Fixation bone screws are inserted into the bone segments through screw receiving apertures to securely affix the bone plate to the repositioned bone segments. The manipulating members are then removed.

Method and system for the reduction and fixation of bone segments

A rib fixation system having a bone plate and mono-cortical bone screws adapted for affixation to a rib, the security of the system being enhanced by providing paired sets of screw-receiving openings, wherein the offset axis of each opening of the paired set is approximately ten degrees off from the normal axis in the transverse direction toward the longitudinal midline of the bone plate and is also approximately ten degrees off the normal axis in the longitudinal direction, with the offset axis of each opening in a paired set being turned toward the other opening in the paired set.

The invention relates to a closing member for a sternal closure which is adapted to be mounted on a human or animal body in the region of the sternum for closing a cleft therein, wherein the closing member includes a first rear engaging area and a second rear engaging area, wherein, on the one hand, the first rear engaging area is prepared for positive securing on a first mounting area of the sternal closure on the one side of the cleft and, on the other hand, the second rear engaging area is prepared for positive securing on a second mounting area of the sternal closure on the other side of the cleft; to a sternal closure system comprising two first and second securing portions spaced apart from each other and adapted to be mounted on the human or animal body on both sides of a cleft in the region of a sternum as well as such closing member; and to a sternal closure.

The invention relates to a sternal closure for closing a cleft in a sternum, wherein in each of a first and a second securing area at least one hole is provided for receiving bone screws, the two securing areas being adapted to be screwed on each side of the cleft, wherein a severing site member joining the two securing areas and being integrally connected thereto is provided.
