Methods for substantially improving the stability of a melting furnace system including bushings and cooling apparatus for converting molten mineral material to continuous fibers is disclosed. Apparatus and methods for maintaining the molten material throughput and the electrical power load on fiberizing bushings substantially constant are disclosed. The orifice plate, with or without tips or nozzles, is subjected to a more rapid rate of heat removal after the bushing breaks out than it did while the bushing was in a desired fiberizing mode. Apparatus for blowing cooling air upward onto the orifice plate during the time the bushing is breaking out and/or hanging to provide additional cooling is disclosed along with optional additional or alternative apparatus to use for optional additional or alternative cooling is also disclosed.

Systems for fiberizing molten glass

This invention involves apparatus and methods for making fibers by passing a molten material like glass, polymer, etc. through orifices or tips in a fiberizing bushing and then cooling the molten material coming from the tips and newly formed fibers using cooling tubes. The cooling tubes are made from precious metals and various alloys comprising precious metals, nickel and one or more of titanium, chromium, molybdenum, etc. The one or more fins attached to the top surface of a hollow tube to make the cooling tubes contain spaced apart gaps, notches and/or slots extending from the top edge of the fin to prevent warping of the fins and to make the cooling tube more bendable, adjustable during the operation of making fibers from molten material.

Cooling apparatus for fiberizing bushings and method

An apparatus for adjusting the cooling members located beneath fiberizing bushings is disclosed having the capability of moving each cooling member, or one portion of each cooling member, in a generally vertical direction, and/or in a lateral and/or tilting direction. In another embodiment, the invention is a method of reducing humping of a laminated roofing shingle including an overlay, an underlay, and an adhesive between the overlay and the underlay in an area of the shingle. The method involves providing a depression in the shingle that extends through at least a portion of the adhesive area. In a further embodiment, the invention is a method of reducing humping of a roofing shingle having a sealant in an area of the shingle. The method involves providing a depression in the shingle that extends through at least a portion of the sealant area.

A method of applying tiles to a roof, the tiles being of at least two different appearances, includes establishing a collection of pattern units, each pattern unit representing an arrangement of a plurality of tiles formed into a specific pattern, the specific pattern of each pattern unit being different from the specific pattern of every other pattern unit in the collection of pattern units. Each pattern unit includes representations of tiles of at least two different appearances, such as different colors. Tiles are applied according to a first one of the pattern units, to a first portion of the roof. Tiles are applied according to one of the pattern units, to a second portion of the roof that abuts the first portion of the roof. Additional tiles are applied to additional portions of the roof, the tiles being applied to each additional portion of the roof according to one of the pattern units, with each additional portion of the roof abutting a previously applied portion of the roof.

A fastenable composite roofing shingle is made from a composition comprising an organic, resinous material and an inorganic filler material, the shingle having a structure comprising a top surface forming an upper, headlap portion and a lower, butt portion, with the headlap portion having one or more targets suitable for indicating a desired fastener location to a shingle installer. The targets include a recessed area in the top surface of the shingle to enable a head of a fastener to be sheltered below the top surface. The recessed area has a hollow dimple defining an area of additional indentation, whereby the thickness of the shingle in the recessed area is greater than the thickness of the shingle in the dimple.

This invention incorporates a unique process for alignment of a reciprocable frame between the shafts of the mast of a fork lift. By using a shim having a thickness of about one-eighth inch between the inside surfaces of the shafts and the edges of the frame, guide rollers on the outside of the shafts can be adjusted to hold the frame in alignment. Guide roller adjustment is accomplished by mounting the rollers on eccentrics which are adjusted after the shim is in place. After adjustment the rollers are locked in place. Then after the shim is removed the rollers inherently align the frame between the vertical shafts.

A fork lift truck includes a generally U-shaped frame having a pair of hydraulic driven wheels on the front end and a caster on the back end. A mast projects upwardly from the frame and is designed to move between the forward end of the vehicle and a retracted position behind the front wheels. A carriage is mounted on the forward end of the mast and reciprocates upwardly and downwardly on the mast in response to chains connected to a hydraulically driven piston which is mounted on the mast.

A foamable liquid distributing apparatus comprising a composite block formed of two parts removably secured together and having an inlet passageway and a plurality of spaced outlet passageways. The present invention embraces apparatus for the production of mineral fibers. A bushing for the manufacture of mineral fibers, such as glass fibers, comprises an orificed bottom wall for the passage of streams of molten mineral material therethrough for attenuation into fibers, upwardly extending sidewalls and an orificed member, positioned above the bottom wall and extending between the sidewells, for passage of the molten mineral material therethrough to the bottom wall. The ratio of the poiseuille resistance to flow of the orificed member to the poiseuille resistance to flow of the bottom wall is in the range of from about 0.5 to about 1.0.

The disclosure embraces a method of and apparatus for controlling or stabilizing the temperature or heat pattern at an orifice plate or feeder floor from which flow glass streams which are attenuated to fibers or filaments. More particularly the disclosure embraces a method of and apparatus for delivering streams of air or other fluid from a nozzle construction at a selected angular position into the attenuating environment and onto the feeder floor or orifice plate for cooling the glass streams and the feeder floor or orifice plate for normal attenuating operations. In event of a fiber or filament break-out or other interruption of attenuation, the angularity of the nozzle construction is changed with respect to the normal path of movement of the fibers or filaments so as to stabilize the heat pattern at the orifice plate or feeder floor and thereby facilitate restarting of normal attenuating operations.
