Method and system for removing high freeze point components from natural gas. Feed gas is cooled in a heat exchanger and separated into a first vapor portion and a first liquid portion. The first liquid portion is reheated using the heat exchanger and separated into a high freeze point components stream and a non-freezing components stream. A portion of the non-freezing components stream may be at least partially liquefied and received by an absorber tower. The first vapor portion may be cooled and received by the absorber tower. An overhead vapor product which is substantially free of high freeze point freeze components and a bottoms product liquid stream including freeze components and non-freeze components are produced using the absorber tower.

Pretreatment of natural gas prior to liquefaction

The invention is a process and apparatus for separating the components of a multi-component gas stream comprising light and heavier volatility components with a variable composition. The process includes contacting the multi-component gas stream with a lean solvent in an absorber to produce a light component overhead stream and a rich solvent bottoms stream, flashing the rich solvent bottoms stream in at least a first, second and third reduced constant pressure of sequentially lower pressure wherein the released gas is compressed and a part is routed back to the absorber bottoms as stripping gas and a part is routed as a part of the heavier product stream. In this invention compressed vapor from the first or second reduced constant pressure rich solvent flash vessel is split by flow control between recycle routing to the absorber bottom stage as stripping gas and to the heavier product hydrocarbon stream, depending on the feed gas concentration of light component. The third and any additional flash vessels at sequentially lower pressure produce flash gas that is the remainder of the produced hydrocarbon product stream. The lean solvent remaining after the lowest pressure flash is routed back to the top of the absorber.

Light gas separation from hydrocarbons for variable composition feed streams

A process for separating the components of a multi-component gas stream is disclosed. The multi-component gas stream is contacted with a solvent in an extractor to produce an overhead stream enriched with unabsorbed component(s) and a rich solvent bottoms stream enriched with absorbed component(s). The rich solvent bottoms stream is then flashed at reduced pressure to regenerate lean solvent and to recover the absorbed component(s) as an overhead stream. The regenerated solvent is recycled to the extractor. A portion of the circulating solvent comprises external solvent added to the system. A second portion of the circulating solvent comprises internal solvent contained in the feed gas.

Combined use of external and internal solvents in processing gases containing light, medium and heavy components

A process for separating diamondoids and water from a gas stream that is being cooled to below atmospheric temperature is disclosed. The multi-component gas stream is contacted with a diamondoid solvent and a water solvent (glycol) simultaneously. The feed gas can be cooled to temperatures of at least &#x2212;40&#xb0; F. without formation of water-based or diamondoid solids. Downstream equipment is protected from large accumulations of diamondoid solids or liquids. The feed gas may be natural gas, coal seam gas, associated gas, or other naturally occurring gases. The rich solvent with diamonoids may be regenerated or simply recirculated with make-up of fresh solvent and a purge of rich solvent. The rich glycol and rich diamondoid solvent streams are each separated from the feed gas after cooling. The lean glycol and lean solvent can be mixed using static mixers in order to inject with a single set of nozzles.

Removing diamondoid components from natural gas at reduced temperatures

A process for separating the components of a multi-component gas stream is disclosed. The multi-component gas stream is contacted with a solvent in an extractor at cryogenic temperatures to produce an overhead stream enriched with unabsorbed component(s) and a rich solvent bottoms stream enriched with absorbed component(s). The rich solvent bottoms stream is then flash evaporated to regenerate the lean solvent and to recover the absorbed component(s) as an overhead stream, which is compressed to produce a product stream. The regenerated solvent is recycled to the extractor.

Use of cryogenic temperatures in processing gases containing light components with physical solvents

A process and apparatus for separating the components of a hydrocarbon gas feed stream is disclosed. A multi-component hydrocarbon gas feed stream is contacted with a solvent in an absorber to produce a first overhead stream that is enriched in a first component and a rich solvent bottoms stream that is enriched a second component. The rich solvent bottoms stream is flash vaporized to recover the second component as a second overhead stream and to produce a lean solvent stream that is returned to the absorber. During the flash vaporization process, the rich solvent bottoms stream is contacted with a stripping gas that is a portion of the first overhead stream. This stripping process enhances the recovery of the second component during the flash vaporization.

Use of stripping gas in flash regeneration solvent absorption systems

A process is shown for separating a relatively hot feed gas containing methane, ethane and heavier hydrocarbon constituents into a volatile residue gas and a primarily liquid bottoms. The feed gas is cooled to partially condense the feed gas to form a liquid portion which is expanded and fed to a fractionating column. The expanded liquid portion flows down the column in countercurrent fashion to vapors flowing up the column to separate the relatively less volatile fraction as column bottoms. A side reboiler heats and vaporizes a portion of the liquids flowing down the fractionating column to provide stripping vapors which flow up the column. A portion of the relatively hot, methane rich feed gas entering the process is routed to the column at a selected location in order to raise the relative volatility of liquids near the bottom of the column, resulting in ethane rejection.
