A method for determining configuration information to be reported comprises accessing a table corresponding to a configuration resource associated with the configuration information, wherein the table comprises an entry for each hardware configuration definition to be built for the configuration resource, identifying a seed value in the table corresponding to the configuration resource, and modifying the seed value based on a result of processing each entry indicated by the table.

Methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture for maintaining virtual real time clocks (virtual RTCs) in a logically partitioned computer system are described. Changes made to a hardware real time clock (hardware RTC) while a partition manager is not running (or is not fully operational) are tracked. The cumulative effect of these changes on the hRTC value may be captured in a clock delta variable. For some embodiments, a service processor may be configured to track the changes to the hRTC while the partition manager is not running and generate the clock delta. Upon loading, the partition manager may utilize this captured clock delta to make adjustments to vRTCs, in an effort to preserve their integrity by compensating for the changes made to the hRTC while the partition manager was not running.

A method, apparatus, and computer instructions for determining validity of and updating a microcode image. Responsive to initiation of an update process, a first validity indicator is checked to determine whether a first microcode image in the memory is valid. In response to the first microcode image being valid, a second validity indicator is set indies, to indicate that a second microcode image is invalid, and the update process is allowed to update the second microcode image to form an updated microcode image. A determination is made as to whether the updated microcode image is valid. The second validity indicator is set to indicate that the updated microcode is valid if the updated image is valid. The second validity indicator is checked during booting of a data processing system. If the second validity indicator is valid, the updated microcode will be loaded.

Method and apparatus for updating a microcode image in a memory

A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for implementing time synchronization correction in computer systems. A service processor includes a battery-backed hardware clock, and a hypervisor includes a hypervisor system clock. A common timer resource is accessible by the hypervisor and the service processor. To synchronize the battery-backed hardware clock and the hypervisor system clock, the common timer resource is used to measure the latency in the communication medium between the hypervisor and the service processor. The latency is then added onto the time value received in time of day messages between the hypervisor and the service processor for time synchronization correction in the computer systems.

Method, apparatus, and computer program product for implementing time synchronization correction in computer systems

An object oriented framework for diagnostic testing operates upon a user-defined diagnostic script to perform the desired tests. Certain core functions are provided by the framework, which interact with extensible functions. This separation of core and extensible functions allows the separation of the diagnostic application from the attributes of the test. A user may thus define extensible functions that allow the framework to test specific hardware and/or software without the framework having the knowledge of the specific tests being performed, or the results of those tests.
