The present invention provides multi-ply creped tissue products, and in particular embodiments creped wet-pressed tissue products, having substantially higher per-ply basis weights, such as from about 14.0 grams per square meter or greater. Despite having relatively high per-ply basis weights, the products are generally soft and flexible, such as having a softness value (measured as TS7) less than about 10.0 and a Stiffness Index less than about 20.0. While being soft and flexible, the tissue products are durable enough to withstand use, such as having a geometric mean tensile (GMT) greater than about 1,000 g/3″.

The present invention provides multi-ply creped tissue products, and in particular embodiments creped wet-pressed tissue products, having substantially higher per-ply basis weights, such as from about 14.0 grams per square meter or greater. Despite having relatively high per-ply basis weights, the products are generally soft and flexible, such as having a softness value (measured as TS7) less than about 10.0 and a Stiffness Index less than about 20.0. While being soft and flexible, the tissue products are durable enough to withstand use, such as having a geometric mean tensile (GMT) greater than about 1,000 g/3&#x2033;.

The invention provides a creped tissue web having satisfactory softness without the excess use of water insoluble creping compositions. The satisfactory softness levels, which may be measured as TS7, are generally less than about 10.0 and may be achieved by creping the tissue web with less than about 100 mg/m(milligrams of creping composition per square meter of creping cylinder surface area) such as from about 25 to about 100 mg/mand more preferably from about 50 to about 75 mg/m. It was previously believed that water insoluble creping compositions need to be added at high add-on levels, such as 100 mg/mor greater to achieve a desirable softness at a given tensile strength. It has now been surprisingly discovered that the add-on of water insoluble creping composition may be reduced significantly by adding a water soluble adhesive to the creping composition.

Soft creped tissue

The invention provides a creped tissue web having satisfactory softness without the excess use of water insoluble creping compositions. The satisfactory softness levels, which may be measured as TS7, are generally less than about 10.0 and may be achieved by creping the tissue web with less than about 100 mg/m2? (milligrams of creping composition per square meter of creping cylinder surface area) such as from about 25 to about 100 mg/m2? and more preferably from about 50 to about 75 mg/m2?. It was previously believed that water insoluble creping compositions need to be added at high add-on levels, such as 100 mg/m2? or greater to achieve a desirable softness at a given tensile strength. It has now been surprisingly discovered that the add-on of water insoluble creping composition may be reduced significantly by adding a water soluble adhesive to the creping composition.

Low slough, high basis weight tissue webs and products are provided. The tissue webs generally have basis weights greater than about 16 grams per square meter (gsm), while maintaining less than about 4 mg of slough. All while yielding tissue products that are both thick and soft.

In general, the present disclosure is directed to creped tissue webs, and products produced therefrom. The creped webs and products are strong, soft, and have fine crepe structure, such as less than about 12, measured as % COV at a STFI wavelength of 16 to 32 mm, using the test method set forth herein. Fine crepe structure is achieved even at basis weights in excess of 16 gsm per ply.

In general, the present disclosure is directed to creped tissue webs, and products produced therefrom. The creped webs and products are strong, soft, and have improved strike-through and absorbency properties. The improvement in both strike-through and absorbency is achieved in-part by increasing the basis weight of the web, while at the same time reducing the creping composition add-on levels.

Absorbent barrier tissue

Tissue sheets are disclosed containing an additive composition. The additive composition is applied to the tissue sheet during a creping process in a controlled manner such that the additive composition forms deposits on the sheet separated by untreated areas. In one embodiment, the additive composition is applied to a creping surface. A wet tissue sheet is then transferred to the creping surface by a topographical surface containing elevations. The elevations press the tissue sheet against the creping surface. When creped from the surface, the additive compositions transfers to the tissue sheet according to where the elevations were located on the topographical surface.

Wiping products are disclosed containing an additive composition that enhances the cleaning properties of the product. The additive composition, for instance, comprises an aqueous dispersion containing an alpha-olefin polymer, an ethylene-carboxylic acid copolymer, or mixtures thereof. The alpha-olefin polymer may comprise an interpolymer of ethylene and octene, while the ethylene-carboxylic acid copolymer may comprise ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer. The additive composition may also contain a dispersing agent, such as a fatty acid.

Wiping products having enhanced cleaning abilities

Sheet-like products are disclosed containing an additive composition. In accordance with the present disclosure, the additive composition is applied to a creping surface. A base sheet is then pressed against the creping surface for contact with the additive composition. The base sheet is then creped from the creping surface causing the additive composition to transfer to the base sheet. In particular, the additive composition is transferred to the base sheet in amounts greater than about 1% by weight, such as from about 2% to about 50% by weight. The additive composition can comprise, for instance, a thermoplastic polymer resin containing an aqueous dispersion, a lotion, a debonder, a softener, or mixtures thereof.

Process for increasing the basis weight of sheet materials

Tissue products are disclosed containing an additive composition. The additive composition, for instance, comprises an aqueous dispersion containing an alpha-olefin polymer, an ethylene-carboxylic acid copolymer, or mixtures thereof. The alpha-olefin polymer may comprise an interpolymer of ethylene and octene, while the ethylene-carboxylic acid copolymer may comprise ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer. The additive composition may also contain a dispersing agent, such as a fatty acid. The additive composition may be incorporated into the tissue web as the web is being formed. Alternatively, the additive composition may be topically applied to the web in a post processing operation. For instance, in one embodiment, the additive composition may be applied to the web as a creping adhesive during a creping operation.

Process for producing tissue products

In one embodiment, the present invention provides a method of forming a cellulose article having a specific volume of less than 3 cc/gm. The method includes the step of incorporating cellulose fibers with a compound, wherein the compound includes an aqueous dispersion. The aqueous dispersion may have at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of an ethylene-based thermoplastic polymer, a propylene-based thermoplastic polymer, and mixtures thereof; at least one polymeric stabilizing agent; and water. In certain embodiments, a combined amount of the at least one polymer and the at least one stabilizing agent comprises about 25 to about 74 volume percent of the aqueous dispersion.
