An electric submersible pump (ESP) gas separator is described. An ESP gas separator includes a propeller upstream of a fluid entrance to a crossover, the crossover including a production pathway and a vent pathway, and the propeller including a plurality of blades comprising washout twist, wherein gas rich fluid of multi-phase fluid traveling through the gas separator flows through the propeller and into the vent pathway, and gas poor fluid of the multi-phase fluid flows around the propeller and then through the production pathway. An ESP assembly includes a gas separator between a centrifugal pump and an induction motor, the gas separator serving as an intake for fluid into the centrifugal pump and including a propeller in a separation chamber, the propeller comprising a plurality of blades, each blade having a pitch that increases in coarseness from a hub towards a shroud of the propeller.

An electrical submersible pump comprising a fallback bearing protection system, the system comprising: locking member; boot pivotally connected to shaft of electrical submersible pump adjacent to locking member, wherein the boot comprises a sloped outer wall capable of forming a fluid boundary thereby diverting fallback fluid away from uppermost bearing of electrical submersible pump; ridge disposed on the sloped outer wall of the boot. A method for protecting uppermost bearings of electrical submersible pump, the method comprising: operating the electrical submersible pump; removing power supply from electrical submersible pump; allowing fallback fluid to flow from a tubing disposed above electrical submersible pump into the electrical submersible pump thereby rotating fallback bearing protection system pivotally connected to shaft within electrical submersible pump; allowing the rotating fallback bearing protection system to create a fluid boundary capable of radially diverting the fallback fluid away from uppermost bearings of the electrical submersible pump.

An apparatus, system and method for flow rate harmonization in electric submersible pump (ESP) gas separators. A method for flow rate harmonization in ESP gas separators includes modifying flow of multi-phase well fluid through vent passages of a crossover when a flow rate of a centrifugal pump differs from a flow rate of a gas separator including the crossover, the gas separator serving as the fluid intake into the centrifugal pump. Flow of fluid through vent passages is modified by one of attaching flow sizing inserts into vent passages or production passages of the crossover, or by attaching a funnel to a crossover inlet. A gas separator system includes a series of interchangeable funnels attachable to a fluid entrance of a crossover of the gas separator, wherein interchanging the particular funnel attached to the crossover modifies flow rate output of the gas separator.

Apparatus, system and method for flow rate harmonization in electric submersible pump gas separators

A crossover system, method and apparatus for an electric submersible pump (ESP) gas separators. A crossover of an ESP gas separator includes a first helical pathway for higher density fluid that extends at an angle of 10&#xb0; to 40&#xb0; from a horizontal plane through the crossover, the first helical pathway fluidly coupled to a spider bearing including crescent shaped vanes that remove rotational momentum from the higher density fluid, a second helical pathway for lower density fluid that tangentially intersects a crossover jacket, the first helical pathway and the second helical pathway defined by a channel having teardrop shaped openings in the crossover jacket that define channel exit ports venting to a casing annulus, and teardrop shaped openings in a crossover skirt that define a channel entrance, where the first helical pathway is around the channel and the second helical pathway is through an inside of the channel.

A bushing anti-rotation system and apparatus. A bushing anti-rotation system includes an impeller and diffuser stage including a rotatable shaft extending longitudinally through the stage, the diffuser having an inner diameter defining a bore, a bearing set including a bushing pressed into the inner diameter, and a rotatable sleeve inward of the bushing, and means for wedging the bushing against the inner diameter of the diffuser, wherein the means for wedging provides a mechanical lock against rotation of the bushing. The means for wedging the bushing against the diffuser includes one of a key wedged between an eccentric cavity in the diffuser and a notch in the bushing, a pin protruding from the diffuser against a flattened portion of the bushing, a square-shaped bushing secured into a square-shaped bore, a bent retaining ring having a bent end that wedges against a diffuser groove wall, or a combination thereof.

A fluid moving system includes a gas separator between an electric submersible pump and an ESP motor, the gas separator including a separation chamber including an impeller and a diffuser, the impeller including a plurality of regressively pitched main vanes interspersed between a plurality of mixer vanes, each of the plurality of main and mixer vanes extending along the hub with a positive slope and a concave top face, and a diffuser, the diffuser including blades extending along a diffuser body in a sloped direction substantially opposite the slope of the impeller main vanes, the blades having a concave top face and a regressive pitch that mirrors the pitch of the impeller main vanes, wherein the impeller vanes and diffuser blades serve to homogenize the well fluid while facilitating downstream movement.

An apparatus, system and method for treatment of an electric submersible pump (ESP) power cable is described. A method of treating an ESP power cable includes wrapping an ESP power cable around a reel as the cable is removed from a production well to form cable layers, supporting the cable-wrapped reel horizontally above a tank, the reel supported on a shaft extending between actuatable support members, pumping treatment fluid into the tank, lowering the cable-wrapped reel partially into the tank by activating the actuatable support members such that a lower portion of the reel is submerged in the treatment fluid and an inner diameter of the cable-wrapped reel is fluidly coupled to the treatment fluid, rotating the reel around its central axis such that each portion of an outermost layer of the cable is submerged in the treatment fluid at least once to coat the ESP power cable.

An apparatus and system for sealing an electrical submersible pump (ESP) assembly are described. An ESP system includes a top portion of a seal section including a sand barrier portion defined by a sand barrier stop secured between the ESP intake and an adapter portion, the sand barrier portion including a sand barrier wedged between the sand barrier stop and the adapter portion, the adapter portion encasing a mechanical seal and secured between the sand barrier portion and a head portion, the head portion secured between the adapter portion and a seal section housing, the head portion including a thrust bearing and a thrust runner, wherein each of the thrust bearing and the thrust runner includes at least one pad having a diamond-like carbon (DLC) layer on an outer surface.

Apparatus and system for sealing submersible pump assemblies

A variable frequency drive (VFD) cabinet ventilation system, apparatus and method is described. A VFD cabinet includes an internal air circulating closed circuit that extends through an inside of an air-to-air heat exchanger and an external air open circuit extending around an outside of the heat exchanger. The circulating internal air closed circuit extends through a chamber closed to ingress of external air, the chamber including electrical components of a VFD system. The external air open circuit makes a turn from downwards to upwards before flowing through a VFD chassis including a drive of the VFD system. A VFD cabinet ventilation method includes turning a flow of cabinet ventilation air from downwards to upwards to separate dirt from the ventilation air, passing the separated ventilation air through a VFD chassis, and circulating internal cabinet air through a closed circuit including an inside of a heat exchanger.

Centrifugal pump sealing surfaces are described. A multi-stage centrifugal pump includes an impeller between a first diffuser and a second diffuser, a plurality of sealing surfaces formed by at least one diffuser inlet ring of the first diffuser interspersed between at least two concentric balance rings of the impeller, and at least one annular diffuser exit skirt of the second diffuser interspersed between at least two concentric annular skirts of the impeller. A multi-stage centrifugal pump includes an impeller including a plurality of concentric annular impeller sealing surfaces mated to a plurality of concentric annular diffuser sealing surfaces, the diffuser sealing surfaces extending toward the impeller from a diffuser stacked adjacent to the impeller, wherein the impeller sealing surfaces and the diffuser sealing surfaces interlock to form a plurality of tight clearances and a tortuous leak path for well fluid lifted by the centrifugal pump.

A torque transfer system for a centrifugal pump includes a bearing sleeve above an impeller, the bearing sleeve and a hub of the impeller surrounding a rotatable shaft and coupled to the rotatable shaft by a key, the bearing sleeve having a stepped bottom edge, a top edge of the hub stepped inversely to the bottom edge of the bearing sleeve such that the top edge and the bottom edge interlock with a clearance between longitudinally extending portions of the interlocked edges, wherein upon reduction of torque transference between the key and the sleeve, the clearance closes such that the longitudinally extending portion of the stepped top edge contacts the longitudinally extending portion of the stepped bottom edge thereby maintaining rotation of the sleeve with the rotatable shaft. A centrifugal pump includes modules with a series of stepped, interlocked impellers.

A thrust-absorbing horizontal surface pump system includes an intake chamber including a stationary thrust bearing paired with a rotatable thrust runner to form a thrust bearing set, wherein a first face of the stationary thrust bearing positioned towards the rotatable thrust runner is at least partially diamond-coated, and wherein a second face of the rotatable thrust runner positioned towards the stationary thrust bearing is at least partially diamond-coated, a fluid entrance that receives fluid into the intake chamber, and a pump inlet that receives the fluid into the multi-stage centrifugal pump, wherein the thrust bearing set is arranged around the intake shaft such that during operation of the electric motor the thrust bearing is in a pathway of the fluid as the fluid flows between the fluid entrance and the pump inlet.

An electric submersible pump (ESP) assembly bearing is described. A bearing set for an ESP assembly includes a rotatable sleeve, and a bushing outward of the rotatable sleeve, the bushing including a tubular portion, and a radial flange extending around a downstream side of the tubular portion. An ESP assembly includes a rotatable shaft, at least one stage stacked in series on the rotatable shaft, each stage including a diffuser, a stationary bearing member including a tubular portion secured within a working fluid exit of the diffuser, a stationary member flange extending radially outward from a top of the tubular portion, and a rotatable sleeve inward of the stationary bearing member and secured to the rotatable shaft. A bearing set for an ESP assembly includes a bushing including a tubular portion, and an annular retaining ring groove extending around an outer surface of the tubular portion.

A centrifugal pump system for handling abrasive-laden fluid includes an impeller including an annular balance ring extending longitudinally on a top side of the impeller and an annular skirt extending longitudinally on a bottom side of the impeller, one of the annular balance ring, the annular skirt or a combination thereof having portions defining a plurality of apertures, wherein the plurality of apertures form an abrasive-media relief path that bypasses at least a portion of a clearance gap and merges with a primary working-fluid flow path. A centrifugal pump impeller includes a bottom shroud, an annular skirt extending longitudinally upstream from the bottom shroud, the annular skirt encircling a central hub, and the annular skirt having an aperture extending through a thickness of the annular skirt.
