The present invention provides a palladium(II) complex of formula (1).  R, m, and X are described in the specification. The invention also provides a process for the preparation of the complex, and its use in carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom coupling reactions.

Preparation of a metal complex

The present invention provides a process for the preparation of Pd(dba).CHClcomprising the steps of: (a) reacting a Pd(II) complex with an alkali metal halide in at least one alcohol solvent; and (b) reacting the product of step (a) with a mixture comprising dibenzylideneacetone, chloroform and an inorganic base to form Pd(dba).CHCl.

Process for the preparation of a palladium complex

The present invention provides a process for the preparation of a complex of formula (I) comprising the steps of: (a) mixing Pd(diolefin)BrandBuP in a solvent; and (b) adding an alkali hydroxide to form the complex of formula (I).
