A hardened cement produced by setting a cement slurry including an asphaltite (e.g., GILSONITE™ uintaite), graphene (e.g., bioderived renewable graphene (BRG), non-BRG graphene, a synthetic graphene, or a combination thereof), a cement, and water. The cement slurry can comprise from about 0.2 to about 20 weight percent of the asphaltite and from about 0.2 to about 20 weight percent of the graphene by weight of cement (% graphene bwoc). The hardened cement has one or more enhanced mechanical properties (e.g., increased compressive strength (CS), or increased resiliency as indicated by an increased reduction in a ratio of YM/CS) relative to a same hardened cement produced by allowing to set a same cement slurry absent the asphaltite and/or the graphene. Methods of cementing with the cement slurry are also provided.

Synergistic effects of asphaltite and graphene on cement resilience

A composition including a particulate, water, and a suspension aid comprising graphene, wherein the graphene comprises bioderived renewable graphene (BRG) and wherein the particulate is suspended in the composition. Methods of making and using the composition are also provided.

A cement slurry including graphene, a cementitious material, and water; the graphene comprises bioderived renewable graphene (BRG). The cement slurry can comprise from about 0.01 to about 20, from about 0.1 to about 15, from about 0.5 to about 5 percent graphene by weight of cementitious material (% graphene bwoc). The invention is directed to a method for designing cement slurry compositions based on toughness. The method addresses the problem of achieving a cement slurry with a desired toughness by iteratively selecting a cementitious material and water, including their concentrations, to form a cement slurry recipe. A toughness model, utilizing physicochemical properties of the recipe components, calculates the toughness of the slurry. The calculated toughness is compared to a predetermined toughness requirement. If the requirement is not met, the selection process is repeated with different materials or concentrations until the toughness requirement is satisfied. The resulting cement slurry recipe is used to prepare a cement slurry suitable for applications requiring specific toughness characteristics such as in wellbore cementing.

Designing cement that withstands perforations and other impact loads

A cement slurry includes a set retarder comprising graphene, a cementitious material, and water; the graphene comprises bioderived renewable graphene (BRG). The cement slurry has from about 0.01 to about 20, from about 0.1 to about 15, or from about 0.5 to about 5 percent graphene by weight of cementitious material (% graphene bwoc). Bioderived renewable graphene enhanced cement

Methods for cementing. An example method provides a cement composition comprising an aqueous fluid, a cement, and a cement retarder; wherein the cement retarder is a waste residue from a manufacturing process of a sweetener and comprises a sugar concentration of at least 40%, a Brix value of at least 60, a nitrogen-free extract concentration of at least 50%, a total solids concentration of at least 60%, a crude protein concentration less than 10%, a fat concentration less than 5%, a fiber concentration less than 5%, and an ash concentration less than 10%. The method also introduces the cement composition into a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation and pumps the cement composition to a location within the wellbore, and allows the cement composition to set in the location.

A method for designing a cement composition may include: providing a target compressive strength and a target composition density; selecting at least one cementitious material from a plurality of cementitious materials; calculating a required amount of water to produce a cement composition with the target composition density, the cement composition comprising the water and the at least one cementitious material; calculating a compressive strength of the cement composition based at least in part on a model of compressive strength; comparing the calculated compressive strength to the target compressive strength; and preparing the cement composition with the calculated compressive strength.

Cementing in a subterranean formation may include, activating an extended-life cement composition by mixing at least the extended-life cement composition with a liquid activated pozzolan additive comprising a carrier fluid and an activated pozzolan, wherein the extended-life cement composition comprises water, pumice, hydrated lime, and a set retarder; introducing the extended-life cement composition into a subterranean formation; and allowing the extended-life cement composition to set to form a hardened mass in the subterranean formation.
