A system and method for managing a plurality of messages stored at a mobile communication device, groups messages based on a common subject line or another quasi-unique identifier, and displays message group entries representing distinct message groups in a user interface. The message group entries may be displayed in association with an icon representing multiple message states associated with individual messages comprised within that message group. The multiple message states may include all messages being read, all messages being unread, a most recently received message being unread while others are read, and a most recently received message being read while order messages are unread.

Management and display of grouped messages on a communication device

A shutter and shutter operator are displayed adjacent to a boundary of an information display region on a display of a portable electronic device. The information display region displays first information. In a first state, the shutter operator indicates a first direction of movement of the shutter away from the boundary for the display of second information. In response to an input, the second information is displayed, and the shutter operator changes to indicate another direction of movement of the shutter towards the boundary for hiding the second information.

An electronic device may have a display screen usable in at least two orientations, such as landscape orientation and portrait orientation. Provided in this disclosure is selective rendering of a structured document according to the orientation of the display screen. A structured document such as as webpage is rendered (as a first rendered document) for display according to the document object model structure and optionally styles provided with the webpage. The same webpage is rendered (as a second rendered document) by removing or replacing selected objets in the document object model structure, or by applying different style directives than included in the originally received webpage. When the display screen is in a first orientation, the first rendered document is displayed. When a change in orientation of the display screen to the second orientation is detected, the second rendered document is displayed.

Methods and apparatus for searching a message store on a portable device are described herein. The methods allow a plurality of possible search criteria to be generated and displayed. The present specification provides a method, system and apparatus for posting data to a plurality of accounts at a plurality of remote servers. A display is controlled to generate a message region for receiving message data to be posted to at least a subset of the plurality of accounts. The display is controlled to generate icons, associated with the plurality of accounts, in a one-to-one relationship, the icons provided adjacent to the message region, each icon comprising: a first respective indicator of a respective account; a second respective indicator of a service associated with the account; and a respective picture. Icons are selected and the display is controlled to provide an indicator of selection at each of the selected icons. Message data is transmitted to each of the plurality of accounts associated with each of the icons which are selected via the communication subsystem.
