Disclosed are cement compositions for applying to honeycomb bodies as a plugging cement composition, segment cement, or even as an after-applied artificial skin or coating. The cement compositions generally comprise an inorganic powder batch mixture; an organic binder; a liquid vehicle; and a gelled inorganic binder. Also disclosed are honeycomb bodies having the disclosed cement compositions applied thereto, and methods for making same.

Cement compositions for applying to honeycomb bodies

A method of manufacturing porous ceramic articles is provided that includes forming a plurality of extruded green bodies from a ceramic precursor batch composition. The method also includes firing the extruded green bodies in a tunnel kiln to produce porous ceramic articles, periodically determining a shrinkage characteristic of at least one sample passing through the tunnel kiln, and adjusting a top soak temperature in the kiln if the shrinkage characteristic is outside of a predetermined range.

Method for manufacturing ceramic honeycombs with reduced shrinkage

Disclosed are cement compositions for applying to honeycomb bodies. The cement compositions can be applied as a plugging cement composition, segment cement, or even as after applied artificial skins or coatings. The cement compositions generally include an inorganic powder batch mixture consisting essentially of inorganic particles having a particle size greater than 100 nm. The cement compositions can further include an organic binder, a liquid vehicle, and one or more optional processing aids. Also disclosed are honeycomb bodies having the disclosed cement compositions applied thereto and methods for making same.

Cement compositions for applying to ceramic honeycomb bodies

A ceramic forming batch mixture including inorganic batch materials, such as sources of alumina, titania, and silica, a pore former combination including first and second pore formers with different compositions; an organic binder; and a solvent. Also disclosed is a method for producing a ceramic article involving mixing the inorganic batch materials with the pore former combination having first and second pore formers of different composition, adding an organic binder and a solvent, forming a green body; and firing the green body. A green body having a combination of first and second pore formers with different compositions is disclosed, as are several methods for firing to produce ceramic articles such as aluminum titanate.
