The present invention relates to a method and a device for the detection of a substrate edge in a printing machine comprising a substrate transport unit that defines a substrate transport path (). In this method, at least one light value of a first section of a sensor line () and a dark value of a second section of the sensor line are determined, and a threshold value is calculated based thereon. When the threshold value on one pixel is exceeded and the threshold value on another pixel is not reached, it is possible to calculate a position of the substrate edge. The device comprises a light source arrangement () for generating diffuse light, and comprises a sensor line for the detection of light from the light source arrangement. Furthermore, a gradient lens arrangement () is provided, said gradient lens arrangement being arranged between the light source and the sensor line in such a manner that, on the one hand, a focus is located on a central position of the substrate transport path between the light source and the gradient lens arrangement, and, on the other hand, on the sensor line.

Provided is a device for the alignment of sheets in a printing machine, said device comprising two pairs of rollers for the alignment of the sheets in their advance direction, for the alignment transverse to their advance direction and with respect to skewing, whereby each pair of rollers consists of a driving roller and of a counter-pressure roller. One drive unit is provided for each of the two driving rollers, whereby each of the drive units consists of a motor and a drive shaft linked therewith, whereby the driving rollers are non-torsionally accommodated on respective drive shafts. A multi-beam scanning apparatus is provided for use with a recording medium that is located on an at least partially cylindrical inner bearing face of a recording device, in which the bearing face has a cylinder axis. The scanning apparatus includes a scanner unit for scanning the recording medium with at least one exposure beam. The scanner unit includes an acousto-optical element that is either an acousto-optical deflector or an acousto-optical modulator. The scanner unit includes a deflection element that is axially displaceable and rotatable relative to the cylinder axis of the bearing face. In a method and device for removing light by absorption, undesired light is guided by a light entrance aperture into a hollow body having a light-absorbing inner surface. The light which is directed into the hollow body falls onto the reflection surface of a reflector. The reflection surface is configured and positioned in such a way that the light which is reflected back from the reflection surface is not reflected in itself, that only a minor amount of said light does not reach the outside as scattered light via the light entrance aperture and that a substantial amount of the light reaches the inside of the hollow body where it is absorbed. The invention finds particular use in an electronic recording device for point and line elimination of a recording material with a laser beam, wherein an undesired secondary beam is absorbed according to the inventive method in order to avoid disturbing retroreflections.
