Nasal interface apparatus

An integrated cannula with interface pillows includes a cannula section having a gas inlet for receiving gas, exhalation holes for venting exhalation gas to the atmosphere, and nubs for attaching a head strap. There are two interface pillows formed from a pliable material extend from the cannula section. Each of the interface pillows having an insertion tip that is distal from where each of the interface pillows meets the cannula section. An insertion bulge extends from each interface pillow between the insertion tip and the cannula section, limiting an insertion distance of the insertion tip. An insertion area of each interface pillow extends between the insertion bulge and the insertion tip during use, the insertion bulge is configured to seal against an outer edge of the nostril of a nose.

An interface pillow for insertion into a nostril of a user for delivering positive air pressure (e.g. during sleep) has a pliable member having a body. The body has an insertion end and a distal sealing end that includes a seal for interfacing with a cannula. An insertion bulge extends from the body limiting an insertion distance into the user's nostrils. An insertion area of the body extends between the insertion end and the insertion bulge, the sides of which angle inwardly towards the insertion end at an angle. The outer shape of the insertion area is flattened on one side for interfacing with a septum of a nose, and an upper interface area of the outer shape of the insertion area is narrower than a lower interface area of the outer shape of the insertion area to conform to a shape of a nostril of the nose.

The ventilation interface for sleep apnea therapy interfaces a ventilation device to the patient's airways. The ventilation interface includes a pair of nasal inserts made from flexible, resilient silicone which are oval shaped in cross-section and slightly tapered from a base proximal the ventilation supply to the distal tip end. A bead flange is disposed about the exterior of each insert at the distal end of the insert. A bleed port for release of exhaled air is defined through a conical vent projecting normally to the path of the incoming air flow, and continues through a nipple extending to the exterior of the air conduit. In one embodiment, a pair of nasal inserts are integral with a nasal cannula body, with bleed ports axially aligned with each insert. In another embodiment, each insert is independently connected to a separate, thin-walled, flexible supply line.

Ventilation interface for sleep apnea therapy

An opening system for a container includes an end flap for extending over an opening of the container, and a sealing flap overlying the end flap. The end flap includes an open area and the sealing flap includes a perforation pattern. The perforation pattern includes a first perforation line including a central section extending over the open area, and a second perforation line extending from the first perforation line to one edge of the sealing flap. The first perforation line is configured to tear at a lower force than the second perforation line.

A nasal cannula for delivering air to a patient's nares. Two delivery tubes are provided to supply air to a pair of nasal inserts each of which conform to the shape of the nare. Properly placed bleed ports reduce noise and reduce carbon dioxide retained in the system. The cannula is positioned on the face with the aid of a strap system.

A ventilation or CPAP interface system adapted to be inserted into a nares of a user to secure the interface. A cannula adapted to be connected to a source of ventilation gas forms a first portion of an input gas flow passage to supply the ventilation gas to the user. A nasal insert adapted to be inserted the nares of the user forms a second portion of the input gas flow passage from the cannula to a distal end of the nasal insert. A seal portion adapted to engage a portion of the first naris is provided adjacent the distal end of the nasal insert. Ventilation interface system may optionally include feed tubes, y-connector, tube holder, and headgear.
