Roller cone drill bits and methods of increasing the wear resistance of a roller cone drill bit are disclosed. The roller cone drill bit includes a plurality of rolling elements within a bearing assembly of a cone. Each rolling element of the plurality of rolling elements may have a surface hardness of HRC 59-63, a hardened depth that is 0.5 mm to 3.0 mm deep, and may be derived from a low carbon bearing steel material. The hardened depth is measured from the surface of each rolling element and the low carbon bearing steel material has, by weight percent, from 0.12% to 0.25% carbon.

Bearing materials for tricone bit rolling elements

A nickel-based alloy for forming a seal ring is disclosed. Such seal rings, in use may be static or rotating and may be used in a variety of applications, such as in wheel assemblies of machines. Using the alloy, the seal ring may be manufactured using a centrifugal casting method. The disclosed alloy includes a chromium content greater than at least 13.5% by weight, a boron content less than 3% by weight, a carbon content less than 2% by weight, and nickel content greater than 70% by weight. The nickel alloy may have a carbon plus boron atomic content divided by chromium atomic content less than 1.1. This alloy allows for the rapid cooling of centrifugal casting while maintaining a grain morphology suitable for relatively low leakage and relatively high durability. When the alloy is formulated, the seal ring is formed by centrifugal casting.

A track shoe includes a base plate, a grouser extending from the base plate, and at least one white iron member. At least a portion of the grouser includes a substantially martensitic structure. The at least one white iron member is fixed to a portion of the grouser.

An isolated lubrication system for a drill bit is disclosed. The system comprises a body having a cutting arm with a journal and a rotary cutter mounted on the journal. The system also comprises a reservoir in a body to contain a fluid lubricant that isolated from communication outside the body. The system also comprises multiple conduits in communication with the reservoir and with respect to each other. The multiple conduits facilitate lubrication between the journal and the rotary cutter, including the bearings, by means of a gravitational force and/or a centrifugal force acting of the fluid lubricant. Further, the system comprises a sealing system. The sealing system includes a sealing cap provided to the reservoir, a seal provided between the journal and the rotary cutter, and a stepped passageway provided in a clearance between the rotary cutter and a cutting arm of the body.

A bushing for a track assembly, according to one or more embodiments, includes: a tubular bushing substrate having a longitudinal length and an outer surface; and at least one white iron member fixed to the outer surface of the tubular bushing substrate.

A bushing assembly for a track assembly includes a first end element, a second end element, and a central element positioned between the first end element and the second end element. The central element may be interference fit or positioned between the first end element and the second end element, and the central element may include a greater hardness than the first and second end elements. The first end element, the second end element, and the central element form a bushing with a longitudinal opening extending longitudinally through the bushing.

A seal ring for a seal assembly includes a body and a seal flange. The body is generally cylindrical and extends along a longitudinal axis between a load end and a seal end. The seal flange is disposed at the seal end of the cylindrical body. The seal flange circumscribes the body and projects radially from the body to a distal perimeter of the seal flange. The seal flange includes a sealing face which is annular and disposed adjacent the distal perimeter. The seal ring is made from an alloy that includes between 6 percent and 9 percent by weight of iron, between 1.5 percent and 3 percent by weight of silicon, greater than 14 percent by weight of chromium, and at least 65 percent by weight of nickel.

A high temperature alloy is disclosed. The high temperature alloy may have on a weight basis: about 9.0-10.0 weight % of Co, about 0.25 weight % maximum of Fe, about 8.0-9.0 weight % of Cr, about 4.75-5.50 weight % of Al, about 1.0-1.5 weight % of Ti, about 0-2.0 weight % of Mo, about 6.0-9.0 weight %, of W, about 0.12-0.18 weight % of C, about 0.01-0.03 weight % of Zr, about 0.005-0.015 weight % of B, about 0.5-1.5 weight % of Ta, a balance of Ni, and incidental impurities.

A method of casting an article includes positioning a first portion of the article, formed from a first material, in a rotatable mold. Additionally, the method includes, while rotating the mold, pouring a molten second material into the mold over the first portion to form a second portion of the article that is metallurgically bonded to the first portion of the article.

The disclosure may provide a method of forming a track assembly. In the method, a track pin may be disposed within a first through hole of a first track link and within a second through hole of a second track link. A force may be applied to a tool positioned in a first position to plastically deform a first portion of the first track link which surrounds the first through hole, to thereby form a first connection between the track pin and the first track link. A force may be applied to the tool positioned in a second position to plastically deform a second portion of the first track link which surrounds the first through hole, to thereby form a second connection between the track pin and the first track link. The second connection may be formed after the first connection.
