A multilayer roofing material includes a first layer, a second layer, a third layer, and a fourth layer. The first layer is a topmost layer and a color layer. The first layer comprises a UV stabilizer. The second layer comprises TPO. The second layer is a white layer. The third layer comprises a scrim. The third layer contacts the second layer and the second layer is between the first layer and third layer. The fourth layer comprises TPO. The fourth layer is a core layer. The fourth layer contacts the third layer.

Colored roofing membrane with improved solar reflectance

Exemplary embodiments of a thermoplastic polyolefin membrane are provided. The colored TPO membrane can have a cap layer having a top color layer and a white sub-layer having a solar reflectance underneath the top color layer, and a core layer underneath the cap layer. The colored TPO roofing membrane can have a reinforcing polyester scrim between the cap layer and the core layer. The white sub-layer can be made up of one or more layers.

Disclosed herein are thermoplastic olefin (TPO) membranes with enhanced thermal resistance. In an embodiment, the disclosed may include a cap layer, a core layer, and a scrim layer disposed therebetween. The cap layer may be formulated with TPO resins and a UV stabilizer package comprising ultrafine Ti0. The UV stabilizer package may further comprise various other additives, including a UV stabilizer, an antioxidant, a process or thermal stabilizer, and/or a UV absorber.

Multilayer films of the present disclosure may be connected to a photovoltaic component and laminated to a building surface. The multilayer film may include a compatibilizing layer made of a first material and a barrier layer made of second material and connected to a first external surface of the compatibilizing layer. In an embodiment, the first material, the second material, and the building material may all be different materials. The multilayer film may further include an adhesive layer for bonding with the building surface, and the compatibilizing layer may be disposed between the adhesive layer and the barrier layer.

Methods are provided for predicting warp of a lumber product at a given condition, such as relative humidity, temperature, moisture content, or the like. Note that this methodology may apply to any of crook, bow, twist, cup, or combinations of these quantities. The method involves measuring an original warp of a first wood product at a known condition; changing the condition of the first wood product to a new condition; measuring a second warp of the first wood product at the new condition; developing a prediction model based on data from the original warp and condition and the second warp; measuring an original warp and condition of the given wood product; and inputting data from the original warp and condition of the given wood product to the prediction model to determine warp at a given condition.

The disclosure relates to systems and methods for detecting features on billets of laminated veneer lumber (LVL). In some embodiments, an LVL billet is provided and passed through a scanning assembly. The scanning assembly includes an x-ray generator and an x-ray detector. The x-ray generator generates a beam of x-ray radiation and the x-ray detector measures intensity of the beam of x-ray radiation after is passes through the LVL billet. The measured intensity is then processed to create an image. Images taken according to the disclosure may then be analyzed to detect features on the LVL billet.

In accordance with the disclosed principles, a novel thermoplastic profile roofing strip and an apparatus for welding the thermoplastic profile roofing strip to a thermoplastic roofing membrane is disclosed. In one embodiment, the thermoplastic profile roofing strip may comprise a horizontal base extending longitudinally and having a notched profile. In addition, the thermoplastic profile strip may comprise a vertical central portion laterally connected at one edge and normal to the horizontal base. In such embodiments, the vertical central portion extends longitudinally along the horizontal base to provide the improved profile. Related methods of welding a thermoplastic strip to a thermoplastic membrane are also disclosed.

Methods are provided for detecting compression wood, blue stain, or pitch in lumber. A light beam is projected towards the wood sample. Line or area cameras acquire images of light that is reflected from the wood sample. Based on the intensity of the reflected light at one or more locations on the wood sample, compression wood, blue stain, or pitch may be detected.

Provided is a novel fiberglass binder comprising a polycarboxy polymer and a polyol. The amount of polycarboxy polymer and polyol contained in the binder is such that the ratio of equivalents of hydroxyl groups to carboxy groups is preferably in the range from about 0.6/1 to 0.8/1. It is further preferred that the molecular weight of the polycarboxy polymer is less than 10,000, and more preferably less than 5000.
